Macan [Renders] 2021 Porsche Macan E

The Porsche Macan is a compact luxury crossover SUV (D-segment) produced by Porsche since 2014. It is the smaller SUV from Porsche below the Cayenne. The first-generation Macan went on production from February 2014 with petrol and diesel engine options. In 2024, Porsche released the second-generation Macan which is a battery electric vehicle built on the dedicated Premium Platform Electric (PPE) EV platform.
The timing for the Macan EV could be better but you can’t sell EVs and ICEs in parallel forever. At least Porsche will still sell an ICE Cayenne including replacing a V6 with a V8.

Announced today: the base, RWD Macan and Macan 4S.

Macan Electric
  • Up to 360hp with overboost
  • 0-100 in 5.7 with launch control
  • Top speed of 220 km/h
  • Up to 641 km of range
Macan 4S Electric
  • Up to 516hp with overboost
  • 0-100 in 4.1s with launch control
  • Top speed of 240 km/h
  • Up to 606 km of range
Nice to see the model range filling out.

Surprised that the new base Macan will only be 3000 € cheaper than Macan 4.
You are right. Weird gap. The main selling point of the cheaper model is range. I am curious as to how big the difference will be IRL:

Only version missing, is the only version I'd buy. How long before the GTS is announced?

I'd expect it to be lowered by 5-10mm for dynamic handling much like the 4S went in the opposite direction and was raised by 10mm for ground clearance.

Quick/dirty estimate of where a GTS could fit in.

Pre production model preview this Saturday. I am not allowed to share photos of the interior because some aspects of the screen UI are supposed to change.

All in all a fantastic proper looking, built and finished Porsche Macan that actually moves the game on in so many respects. Easily a more compelling product than the Mercedes GLC and BMW X3. This is a very highly specified Turbo S thats on par in price with a well equipped Cayenne S coupe.

There's on glaring problem though with the car...it's an EV with all of the usual EV resale disaster considerations.

Can you name a few?

Better to compare it to the upcoming iX3 instead of the current ICE cars.
And since this basically is a rebadged Audi with the same or similar tech, it will become outdated the second the iX3 becomes available.
Though I have to say the previous Macan was sort of a modded Audi too and that wasn't really noticeable in any way.

I personally am not quite sold on the egg shape of this car, and it was a good choice to not make pics of the interior at all.
But I haven't seen this car yet so I'll reserve judgement.

I think it will sell well. Basically a Model Y with a Porsche badge. There will be plenty of SUV loving Porsche fans who will buy one instead of a Taycan.

I also think it will sell well. The main reason will unfortunately probably be because of the Porsche badge. More important for me is that it seems to drive best of all all SUV’s. Another important thing for me is that it doesn’t follow the stream of copying the cheap Tesla solutions; removal of all buttons, big screens so you can hardly see out of the front window, panorama screen you can not open, etc. BMW is unfortunately one of the pack that is following this lamentable trend as a dog.

The Macan-e arguably presents Porsche's "most well-rounded package". Comparatively speaking, it is a bit like Porsche AG's new "Swiss Army Knife". In addition and in typical Porsche style, there are probably a number of additional variants in the pipeline.

This is a bit cruel
I meant it on a positive sense :) To a car enthusiast the car might look bland and unexciting. However, for the Macan's customer base, well off babyboomers, it ticks all the boxes: Looks like Porsche, looks like a Macan, easy to step in and out of, practical boot but is not oversized and doesn't shout MONEY.

Can you name a few?

I'm speaking Macan ICE to EV on very first impressions:

* The UI was far better than the POS in the current Macan
* The interior was notably roomier IMO
* The car looked great as presented. The odd proportions in the photos are masked in person IMO. The heavy 3D treatment of the rear lights in the smoked colour presented on this car really stands out and makes the rear more attractive.
* The build seemed to be comparable to the current car, and the finish possibly better. Again this might be different on base models, but the basic switchgear etc. all felt like a normal Porsche.
* There is an element of attention to detail in the design with trim sculpting and recesses and interior ambient lighting etc. that Porsche has not achieved in any of their mainstream cars yet, save possibly the Panamera.
* The move to an EV platform has improved storage space in the interior massively, particularly around the transmission area.

I test drove a Macan Turbo two weeks ago. I was impressed. My concern was it would feel quite a step back from my Taycan GTS, but it really feels like a premium SUV as opposed to an entry level one. It goes without saying the performance was incredible, faster on paper than my Taycan GTS. But it didn't necessarily feel like it. It wasn't explosive like the Taycan. It just builds and builds and doesn't stop. It had rear-axle steering optioned (it comes with PASM as standard), which turns more than the RAS on my Taycan.

Anyway, yesterday I placed an order for a Turbo, due to be built at the beginning of December.

I test drove a Macan 4 last Saturday and went to the dealership with my friend's Taycan 4S. While the Taycan felt more fun to drive, I think the Macan is by far the better choice for daily use! It’s just the more modern car—better tech (i.e. head up and infotainment), better usability, though not as sexy.

I’d get a Turbo if I had the money.

Yeah, absolutely agree. I love my Taycan, and I have no issue getting my family and luggage in it, but the Macan is far more suitable for my day-to-day driving. Getting my children in and out is going to be much easier, and it will be a relief not hearing the front splitter hitting speed bumps that you were sure it could clear.

They've built a proper looking and feeling Porsche. Non of the shitty quality/finish that plagues the majority of other EV's.
