Macan [Renders] 2021 Porsche Macan E

The Porsche Macan is a compact luxury crossover SUV (D-segment) produced by Porsche since 2014. It is the smaller SUV from Porsche below the Cayenne. The first-generation Macan went on production from February 2014 with petrol and diesel engine options. In 2024, Porsche released the second-generation Macan which is a battery electric vehicle built on the dedicated Premium Platform Electric (PPE) EV platform.
I got an email yesterday to say my production has moved forward by one month and my spec was about to lock. Luckily I managed to get down to the dealer before they closed to find a few more ways to part with my money. The last option I specced was possibly the most extravagent, but it's now perfect...

On the Macan Turbo, it comes with the 18-way sports seats as standard. They have a non-illuminated "Turbo" logo located in the top part of the seat (see below):

But, you can also spec an illuminated "Porsche" logo (see below):

Now, I loved the illuminated "M4" logo in my F82 M4 Coupe, but I didn't want the script changing from "Turbo" to "Porsche". So I was going to stick with the standard...until I found out you can actually personalise the illuminated logo to anything of your choice, with the ability to have different script on each seat. Imagine the levels tackiness you could achieve by speccing your own name and your girlfriend's name (my wife would be livid with that). So, I went with the "Turbo" script, illuminated. The rendering doesn't do it justice, and the light isn't blue. The background is Turbonite, which matches the trim and stitching in the leather seats, and also the window trim and 22" RS Spyder rims, which are also in Turbonite.

Nice. I didn't know that you could change the script of the illuminated text. I agree that a change from Turbo to Porsche would have been a downgrade.

Can you tell me the illumination difference between BMW and Porsche. Do it illuminate on both when you unlock the car or only with ignition?

I don't know what the Porsche does, but I would imagine it's the same as BMW, in which case it illuminates when you unlock and then goes out when you turn the ignition on.

I've been given my dealer's demo Macan Turbo for the day tomorrow, just for a longer play around than I had a few weeks ago, so I'll try and find out.

What colour is your Moms Macan

Hmmm, I don't know. I missed the part where I came to a car forum and claimed my mom owns a Porsche or other fancy cars. She lives a pretty modest life in her old age.

But, what I can tell you, are the colors of the Porsches, that she played a huge part in enabling me to own. They are currently Basalt black and Signal yellow. There was also Carmine red and Lizard green in the past. Heck, I can even post pics, you know, like most car enthusiasts do in a car forum when they get a new car to celebrate with their fellow enthusiasts. You can find them here - link.

Do you lease or buy? If you buy do you take a hit?

Macan E - I can’t stand the name. It’s like Mac ‘n cheese but served at raves.

I saw my first one:

This will be hugely popular over here!

I'm still not sold on the split headlight treatment or that protruding black plastic lip at the bottom of the front end, but otherwise, the overall design has certainly grown on me.

khabah

Not gonna lie.. I totally forgot this car had split headlights till you mentioned it. I think this might be the first successful implementation of it that has fooled me lol.... That said still not a fan of it's shape or proportions.

I didn't even notice them and don't quite see them as split headlights (even though they clearly are). They have the same effect as an E53 X5, more like (giant) fogs

A mixture. I own three of my cars, and lease two. The Taycan I bought, and the Macan I've bought. Sometimes leasing makes sense. Just depends on the figures.

The Taycan has lost a phenomenal amount of money, but I don't lose sleep over it.

Worst part for me is still the rear end. Looks like the car is carrying a bag or something.

I love the split headlights.

The rear end is the weakest part, but it looks better in real life. It also looks better when the rear spoiler is extended.

That would actually hold me back on pulling the trigger on a Macan which has actually grown on me. Congrats on your purchase but if the Macan depreciates as seriously as a Taycan, you might just as well buy one of the other 3 German premium brands and save some pocket money. I mean, 911 is famous for keeping value so well but it’s not the case with all Porsches and other than the Turbo, driving experience of the Macan also seems a bit less than expected.

The Macan won't depreciate as much as the Taycan. It's an SUV, and cheaper to buy than the Taycan. But like I say, depreciation is what it is, and doesn't enter my thought process. You get what you get and move on.

It's the Turbo I'm buying, and I already know it's a great drive after spending around three hours in one. I plan to get the facelifted Taycan after the Macan Turbo. Maybe the GTS when it's launched.

There isn't much that compares with the Taycan. I love it and wouldn't go back to petrol cars if I was only allowed one car.

Thanks Sam, congratulations and great choice on the Turbo. What are the delivery times in your country?

Jeez, you might want to change your name to EV Sam after that haha.

No ICE on your garage after this?

I was initially quoted March next year for my Turbo a few weeks ago, but production was suddenly brought forward and now it looks like it will be at the dealer some time next month. I'm not going to take delivery until early January though.

Oh yes. Still have the MB C 200 AMG Line, and will until September 2026. Also the R8 V10, which will remain with me indefinitely. And a VW Polo 1.2 TSI at our second home in London.

The i5 will go at the end of May next year.

I think Betty still owns a C200, am I right?

Correct.
