SL-Class [Renders] 2021 Mercedes-Benz SL

The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class (marketed as Mercedes-AMG SL since 2022) is a grand touring sports car manufactured by Mercedes-Benz since 1954. The designation "SL" derives from the German term "Sport-Leicht", which translates to "Sport Light" in English.

Also off topic: Popped out roll over bar of the R129 saved the drivers life. High tech at its best

I know that my R129 felt a little unstable over 220km/h

Nothing great or majestic about this so-called Mercedes-AMG SL. After the R231, it comes another massive letdown. It is just a Frankenstein design mash-up from the Mercedes-Benz parts bin. Something from the AMG GT, some bits from the CLS and A-Class , some S-Class / C-Class vibes inside, all of them a little elongated, trimmed or slightly resketched, and voila, there you have it: something only a mother would love. Or, Gorden Wagener (just about the same thing).

This SL is nothing more than a poshier AMG GT Cabriolet. So, nothing entirely new here.

According to Mercedes, the platform is all new and different from the AMG GT, however I am sure they will use this on the next gen AMG GT

Let’s wait another day for its official release and then we can come to a conclusion.

The SL is returning to its roots of being a “sport light” roadster. It needed to be shorter and shed weight in order to compete against the Porsche 911.

What I don´t understand: Why not going the way of that stunning concept convertible? That would have been a real hallmark
The old S-Class Coupes and Convertibles weren´t huge sellers and even sold worse than the R231 SL, even when the R231 was 8-9 years old. There is more money to make in the sporty $100000+ than in the $200000+ higher end luxury segment.

Edit: It is actually "Super Leicht".

I read where a true 4-seat Maybach convertible is being "studied" as a true replacement for the S Coupe/Cabrio. So maybe we will see some of this look on such a car.

So am I to understand that both the V8 SL55 & 63 being revealed/launched tomorrow (10/28) will have the mild 48V hybrid system.

No 48v hybrid system on either, according to BenzBlogger, who attended an official dealer training about a month or so back.

Happy SL unveil eve everyone. It is a special day. We haven’t had one in 10 years, It is my third one since September 2001 when we saw the 230. I think we know more about this one than every SL launch I can remember, but still… kind of exciting.

Tomorrow is not going to be a productive day at work for me.

Yeah sure.

Is this the CLS? Or better, the A-Class?

How's that you, MB, are intensively marketing the SL under the Mercedes-AMG arm of development and you can't come with something totally different, something totally radical to be worth the wait?

We are forever seeing the same design styling on and on on every new model and it is no longer boring, it is frustrating. How about some differentiation, especially for the so-called high-end models? I don't see anything special in the new SL, there's nothing new or attractive about these already old-fashioned headlights, stunningly old rims with double-spoke design, the Panamericana grille that we've seen in roughly the same shape across all lineups, the same triangular tail lights which really have no elegance in them, the already dated digital interface that has been with us with little ever since 2013.

What's the whole point of this new SL? To show us Mercedes-Benz can only be creative by doing a scrabble of already existing designs in its family of models?

If none gets the point, then everything is really in vain.
