I doubt it. Do you have some manufacturers info or this is your own opinion?
They've already announced it. It's been covered in this thread already.

The R232 having been maneuvered into a market position in closer proximity to the 992s', perhaps ? The new SLs' predecessors, as of the W113 "Pagoda" omwards, were decidedly more cruisers than sportscars per se. The R232 appears to be a good deal more "athletic". And it was developed under the stewardship of AMG. The 992s' street cred" has been cultivated over the past 58 years, beginning with the 901 series 356 replacement.
I do wonder if the rear deck is high to make room for the battery that's part of the AMG hybrid system. I already contacted my dealer to get an early build 63e. Hopefully it looks good overall so I won't have to cancel. I'm hoping this will be my last ICE vehicle. I try not to have more than 1 car from any given brand but I'll make an exception for this.
The new Mercedes-AMG SL will be delivered at the beginning of 2022
Selected customers were allowed to take a close look at it under the highest security precautions in Pebble Beach in August.
Mercedes has now published the interior and is now showing some teasers of the new Mercedes SL without camouflage. The SL (R232) is only provided with a light foil.

The SL will first appear with the V8 BiTurbo with around 639 hp. This variant will later also be available as a 63 SE Performance. It was presented at the IAA in the AMG GT 4-door with 843 hp. There will also be a variant with an M139 2.0 liter 4-cylinder.
Sorry for spamming this thread, but I did just contact a journalist I know was on the first ride. Turns out the 6 cylinder will for sure be offered and was confirmed by the AMG reps. Rejoice @Merc1 .![]()
JESME is saying the beginning of 2022, but no month was given. Hope they reveal the full details of the new SL before the end of the year.Anyone have an official date when we get to peel off those last bits of camo?

IMO the SL is postponed in order to be redesigned to accomodate the I6 due to the temporary non-availability of the V8 for some markets. So I6 is not a good news, because it is on the expense of the V8 for the USA.
Bring on the 63s E Performance versions of each.
Mercedes have probably identified that people's dream vehicle is no longer a romantic two seater luxury cruiser, instead, it's a G63 AMG. Therefore the SL has to reinvent itself from a luxury cruiser to a GT sports car with an edgy design to match.Again, the same old mistake: headlights similar in shape to that of entry level models. The overall body shape looks very similar to that of AMG GT. I wouldn't be surprised to be largely the same, just tweaked a bit. Mercedes seems very "lazy" and uninspired these days.

Of course they can. First the issues of the V8 are long known internally, so maybe this redesig began an year ago. Second the car should not be redesigned substantionally, because the engine bay is for sure big enough for the I6. They only had to redesign the position of some periphery agregats and the exhaust.OMG just stop. You think they can do that in a few months too right?

How do you imagine, after the temporary stop of the V8, that Daimler would bring the SL with only the four cylinder engine?
Of course they will make all that's necessary to have the I6 working in the engine bay.
But you forget that this time the SL is developped by the AMG department and all AMG V8 are stopped. You're making the assumption this car won't launch with the V8. Remember we didn't lose all the V8s here as the S-class was unaffected. The press drive rides were V8 models so I find that promising. Given the SL's stature and positioning within the Mercedes range, I find it hard to believe they wouldn't just delay the debut of the car altogether rather than solely offer the base model engine.
