My spelling is far from perfect but to put things on an equal basis I offer you to continue the discussion in one of the following languages, which are as forigner to me as to you:
1. German 2. French 3. Greek 4. Russion
And then we can compare our spelling.
Then you should be preaching about intelligence then. I wouldn’t enter a silly discussion in those languages hollering about intelligence. See the difference yet? Spellcheck would have helped your case for intelligence.

...anyways,

Dealer salespeople who are seeking to maintain/gain "AMG Product Expert" status in the U.S. should be getting to see the SL in the flesh starting Monday. I asked if the V8s were going to be at the training sessions and got an "of course" but no clarification as to whether the I6 or V8 hybrid models would also be present.

They have no issues with the V8s in Europe. It's only an US issue AFAIK. So V8 models will be available outside the US.

I was left with the impression from your post that the availability of the V8 for the training confirms, that it will be offered in the US.

There is no doubt that the V8 will be available in the U.S., whether that's MY22 or MY23 is the question. Regardless, I still don't see what your post has to do with mine. They wouldn't train U.S. salespeople on a car with a powerplant that was never going to be sold in that market. What's available elsewhere is irrelevant in this situation.

The question has never been whether the V8 is never going to be sold in the US. The problem with the V8 engines is most probably temporary. The car was obviously planned to be sold with it in the US but a non explained issue took them by surprise. I wonder what else except emissions issue could be the problem since a quality issue would effect not only the US market but also the European one.

No one truly knows what the issue really is so it’s going to forever be endless, pointless speculation as you’ve proven here.

These journalists seem to be getting conflicting info. I do wonder if the AMG team confirmed the 6 cylinder to them and I've been left out of the loop. Roadshow mentioned the same thing: https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2022-mercedes-amg-sl-sl63-prototype-first-ride-review/?PostType=multi-image&ServiceType=twitter&TheTime=2021-09-21T18:16:00&UniqueID=F9AC4784-1B07-11EC-9F8E-1D9596E8478F&ftag=COS-05-10aaa0b

"The base SL will be the SL53, which will use AMG's turbocharged inline-six hybrid motor, and there should be a high-powered plug-in-hybrid model sharing the GT63 E Performance's powertrain."

Also interesting:

"Stockmeier says the team looked to the original 300SL for inspiration, and the R232 will definitely be a lot more fun to drive than previous SLs. But AMG doesn't want the new SL to alienate existing customers by being too racy -- in fact, Stockmeier thinks it could be the next car for those that bought the now-dead S-Class convertible. "Of course we know the heritage of the car and we know the customers of the current one, and they shall be lucky when they buy the new one as well," he says. "90% of the customers will never go to the track, and they want to have a comfy car as well, and that's what we need to provide. These are very valuable customers and we want to have them with us." It will also attract enthusiasts that want a performance car, though, and therein lies the new SL's real appeal."
A customer who buys a brand-new SL would indeed be a very valuable customer to any brand and I can totally understand that their preferences must drive the design. I would also imagine the SL not to be the only Mercedes those customers own, so you will anger them at your peril - you might lose out on several sales per customer if you do that.

Sorry for spamming this thread, but I did just contact a journalist I know was on the first ride. Turns out the 6 cylinder will for sure be offered and was confirmed by the AMG reps. Rejoice @Merc1 . :)
This explains the long overhang - need length for the longitudinal inline 6.

I hope that this new SL doesnt pick up too much weight due to the mild hybrid powertrains. The body has all aluminium shell so hope this will help offset the weight of the mild hydrid tech.

How much extraweight does mild hybrid give? I thought it gives very little extraweight because of small battery

Come again?
The engine will be behind the front axle.

I find most of the conversation here the last few pages quite staggering to be honest. Much unsupported speculation.

You mean the 48v tech? Not much, but calling this tech hybrid has always sounded pretty far fetched to me.

Yes excactly, shouldn’t give much extraweight. It’s more a symbolic hybridsystem which sounds politically correct to many.

Suffice to say that this is a good looking automobile:

quick observations:
1) Any recent doubts i had regarding the SL are put to rest when seen in motion
2) Shame that LR placed their reverse lights on the bumper on what looks like the upcoming Range Rover.

This upcoming R232 SL, the C257 CLS, C/A238 E-Class coupe/cab and the W/S 206 C-Class are the "ICE era swansong" cars that I would simply have to own, were I to embark onto the path of collecting M-B ICE automobiles. Perhaps the upcoming CLE coupe/cab, should they actually come to fruition, would be candidates as well.
They'd be in fine company with my W113 "Pagoda" SL, W124 500E, R129 500SL, C215 500CL...and...and...and...
