I had short drive with the new V90 D5, 235 hp/480nm. Big, comfortable and good looking but way too big for my taste. I prefer smaller cars. 20" wheels for a Volvo!! Another hit for Volvo coming..

I haven't driven Volvo in many years so I can't compare with older cars. I did drive V40 Cross Country the same day...anyways the new Volvo V90 is a comfortable car but it's not a very exciting car, not like Fiesta ST LOL and the engine was kinda slow to react when I gave it full throttle. Steering feel felt artificial.
V90 is a long distance car with good interior space and if you're a travelling sales person get a Volvo.

My girlfriend's seven year old kid was telling me over and over again about the backseat being more comforable and having more leg space than my Fiesta. I had to end the pain by punching him in the face....

The press release is in swedish but some highlights.

All police cars have to go through a massive test before the car gets the approval from the swedish police.
The new V90 gets the best score ever, better than all the police cars in the past.
Score: 9.2 of 10. (Two of the tests, the car got 10 points and for the rest of the tests, the car got 9 points.)

Six different tests are done, for instance. Brake test, slalom test, evasive action test and a few more.
They test in the dry, in the wet and slippery conditions. Also a highspeed test is done, going 220km/h and trying lane changes, brakes, chassi and traction.

Beginning of the next year the car his the streets in Sweden. Volvo police cars is used by the police in various countries, like UK, Norway and the Netherlands. But Volvo want to expand to other countries as well and are already in contact with others.

It takes a week to convert a standard car to police car. With modified suspension, brakes and every other extra equipment. The car is built in a separate factory.

Volvo V90 police cars use following models: T6 AWD, D4 AWD, D5 AWD.

Norway hasn't bought a Volvo police car in a very long time, the only Volvo police cars I see here are very old P2 platform V70 & XC70, the last police contracts have gone to VW for Passats and Mercedes for Sprinter, Vito and GLS and BMW for X5's.

But thats what it says in the pressrelease, Volvo being used as police car. They didnt mention anything about age of those cars.

This is the new age of Volvo. Its not about space for huge dressers and wardrobes. Its about space for the small storage unit bought from IKEA. But I like the V90.

It's got less usable luggage space than the V70 it replaced. I looked at it recently, its a nice car but I can't fit my dog cage in the back, it fits in the A6 by not the V90. It's fits in the XC90 much to my wifes delight, not that she's going to get one of those.

This used to be one of the highlights of a Volvo wagon.

For the same reason @KiwiRob, my wife has bought a new V70 (one of the last).And @klier may have a point, taking the typical V70 buyer into account. The V90 might create a new type of buyer though.

I call this the Gus Fring combination. Blue on the outside and beige inside just like Fring's V70.
