Volvo are having some sort of second renaissance. The visual aspects as well as the quality and the Made in Sweden marketing is working well for them look at the XC90. So although not equal on many terms. It still has a lot to show as a premium product and for some tired of the German monopoly will find the S90 and V90 very appealing indeed.
Just look at it.

Not entirely true. Car taxes are high, but that is just the road tax, not the registration. The high registration taxes are for countries like Denmark, Finland, and Norway. Why? They haven't produced more than like 1.000 (silly) cars between them, so they found it nice to tax cars. Sweden has built cars for a 100 years and found that it was a good thing to not tax the shit out of one of the big industries in the country.

Volvos are, relatively, cheap in Sweden because Volvo knows that they will sell a metric shit-ton of them here.
