Volvo have given up on ICE engines too early. The 1.5 T3 is lethargic and the 2L T4, T5 and T5 have poor fuel consumption. Price sensitivity in this class makes the hybrid only viable to very deep pocketed buyers.

If Volvo will stick to their guns about not developing a new generation ICEs, they should strongly consider buying engines from Mercedes, Ford or another manufacturer.

Maybe they need to develop mild hybrid versions of these new gen ICEs to be competitive, but I am also surprised about the poor fuel consumption of the petrol engines, they are way behind new german rival engines. The new diesels are only slightly behind the Audi, BMW and Merc rivals on consumption as per tests done by AMS and AB for the S90 vs A6/5-series/E-class.

A Geely produced mild hybrid could make it into a Volvo in the near future.

Good looking cars all through their lineup, but they're crying out for an I6. That S60 is really sexy though.

With their layout mounting the engine transverse and driving primary the front wheels the use of an inline 6 is quite hard, although they have done this in the recent past, wider tires and more complex suspension hinder this now.

Volvo also designed the structural members around the engine bay so that only an I4 or smaller will fit. This has been done before, Jaguar designed the engine bay of the XJ40 so only Jags inline 6 would fit, at the time they were designed the car British Leyland wanted to fit it with the Rover V8, redesigning the car for the V12 was a major undertaking, hence the Series III XJ12 remained in production until 1992, 6 years after they stopped building the XJ6.

I meant the first gen Volvo S80 that had a transverse inline 6 cylinder engine.

Very stylish and sexy looking sedan the new S60, I like it very much.

Good job not showing the rear. :) That's the weakest element in an overall great looking car imo. I find the S60 easy to pass on though due to the driving experience. It's forgivable in a crossover, but Volvo still hasn't learned how to properly tune a suspension.

Design wise they nailed it in my opinion. It looks amazing in person and dare is say: better than the competition. The drive isn’t that sporty but sporty enough for most. This is miles from a Giulia but we enthusiasts are the 1%. I’d love to own an S60 T6 Polestar engineered.

The design is very much cohesive and harmonious. Elegantly understated that'll age very well, IMO. Excluding reliability as a criteria, the 3er, Giulia, and S60 are in my top 3 in this category. S60 is especially high up there because you can get it as a wagon as the V60 in the States.

I'm a bit surprised how few of these I've seen on our roads here in Germany. Perhaps a handful of V60s'. And I've yet to see an S60. Pity as it's a genuinely handsome automobile.

The S60 Facelift is very mild and mostly concentrates on mild hybrid powertrain but is still an impressive looking car with comfortable looking cloth seats and lovely crystal gearshift.
