S90/V90 [Official] Volvo V90 - Official pics

The Volvo S90 is an executive sedan manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars from 2016 to 2025. Its estate variant is the Volvo V90.
I wonder if this car will shake up the segment. We will wait and see.

No chance at all whatsoever. It will be nice in it's own right, but will not be setting any new standards. Not with a brand new E class and 5er/A6 on the horizon. This segment is German and it's impossible to top them. Period.

Agreed there too. Volvo is on a roll, there's no denying.

But it's not sporty enough compared to a Bimmer (nor is it supposed to be of course), not comfortable enough compared to a Benz, and, to add Audi too, not technical enough for an Audi.

True but Volvo's driving pleasure today is a massive step up from 10 years when their cars pedals had the feel of a kitchen sponge.

Volvo are having some sort of second renaissance. The visual aspects as well as the quality and the Made in Sweden marketing is working well for them look at the XC90. So although not equal on many terms. It still has a lot to show as a premium product and for some tired of the German monopoly will find the S90 and V90 very appealing indeed.
Just look at it.

@Centurion

True, but there's a huge but

Let me explain. I was both impressed and enraged to find out that my S60's clutch is operated not by the traditional fork, but by a hydraulic pressure release bearing, that applied pressure evenly on the clutch disk. I know for a fact that both the E46 3er and the B6 A4 of the same era used the good old fork.

I was impressed because Volvo's system means less jerky gear shifts when you are not careful plus a bit better feedback from the far left pedal. I was also enraged when I found out how much it costs to replace.

Also, the S60's suspension adjustability is too good to be true. A stock S60 will understeer so much that puts an old Audi to shame, but you can play with all angles and bring it to your liking. The next S60's suspension was laughable in that case.

Still, a mk1 or mk2 S60 is not as good as an A4/ 3er or C, but it's almost there.

New 2018 Volvo V90 Cross Country spied, expected next year

A new variant of Volvo’s V90 executive wagon with increased ground clearance that’s believed to be called the V90 Cross Country was scooped testing in Southern Europe this week.

Effectively a successor to today’s XC70 crossover wagon, the new V90 Cross Country builds upon Volvo’s new V90 estate adding a raised ride height, a re-tuned suspension, and even though the camouflage on this prototype conceals the cosmetic revisions, chunkier styling through reworked bumpers, more prominent roof rails and protective body cladding.

Pitched as a premium estate with the beefed up looks and all-year round driving abilities of a crossover (think of it as the wealthier man’s Subaru Outback), the Cross Country will come with the regular V90’s engine portfolio, including the 235PS (232hp) D5 diesel and the 254PS (242hp) T5 and 320PS (316hp) gasoline units, all of which are 2.0-liter turbocharged fours. It is likely that the Swedes will offer both front- and all-wheel drive versions of the V90 Cross Country in all markets.

An introduction should take place in one of the big international car shows during the first half of 2017, with sales to follow before the summer.

I was with you until audi, these new volvos are very techy to be honest, you should read up on their Human interface systems and active safety and last but not least autonomous driving.

Haha, yeah, I know I should have left Audi out of this.

Volvo got several exciting up and coming models but I want to hear developments of new engines. Surely, their future cannot exclusively be driven by 2.0L 4 cylinder engines.

Why not? The internal combustion engine is nearing it's end anyways. 4 pots with electric engine will do just fine. It's good for their image among the general public as a green Swedish concious brand, it saves space, it compliments the actual design (no need for huge overhang when the engine takes little space), and can also give fantastic hp ratings for fast cars like maybe a future Polestar. All they have to do is make the engine more refined.

True, but at high speeds big Volvo's T8 configuration shows its weakness: Poor flexibility and high noise. Only the NSX, P1, 918 etc excel both at low speed and motorway speeds. However, I can see why Volvo would rather invest millions into improving their electric drive train, than developing a 6 cylinder engine.

^ This guy is not funny...

About the S90/ V90, every review says the same. Great car, the gearbox is not perfect, it needs bigger engines.
