Panamera [Official] Porsche Panamera (971)

The Porsche Panamera is a mid to full-sized luxury car (E-segment or F-segment for LWB in Europe) manufactured and marketed by Porsche. The Panamera name, as with the Carrera name, is derived from the Carrera Panamericana race.

I really like the interior, it looks very clean with all the "touch" buttons (I don't know how to call them) on the center console.
However, after having driven cars with touch screens, I find it a potentially dangerous feature, as you need to take your eyes off the road, to look at which button or command you touch. I really love the looks, but I'm not sure about the functionality.
In older cars, after driving them a bit, and knowing the commands by heart, I really loved being able to press the buttons I wanted without taking my eyes off the road.
How do you guys feel about the practicality of this new way of interacting with cars?
It has feedback from the touch buttons, like a real physical button, so you can do your memory game:)

With some early pajun mules starting to be seen on the roads, I wonder what will be the effect on the lower segment if Porsche manages to downsize the Panny successfully. A car like this Panny, lighter, sportier, and with the size of a 5er could really rock the mid-size segment.

That's not a good comparison. You're comparing LWB cars to the SWB Panamera.

Porsche wants an extra 20k for the extra 5.91" longer wheelbase vs 2.5k ~ 5k the competition charges  I could waste that 20k on tons of options SWB or LWB in a merc for instance.

The only advantage I see in the Panamera vs rivals is, the sportier driving that allows you to fly under the radar.

If they continue to raise the price, which clearly will happen with the introduction of hybrid tech integrated to current ICE. I have a feeling many will stick to V6 and diesel models, while the Turbo / Turbo S will be filling the showrooms, warehouses and porsche musuem at Zuffenhausen.

No chance in hell the M5 will be faster than the Panamera.. It will have problems with the turbo..
then there is turbo S and this rumored 700hp one..the game has moved on.

LOL, I am going to bookmark this. Will be great to name and shame.

^ and I truly hope this guy is like 2.50m. Looks very cramped to be honest. A 5er or E class has more space.
Other than this, the car is absolutely flawless looking. LOVE IT!!!!

A Nürburgring laptime is too easy to fake
(and too important to ignore)

Because the manufacturers test in the journalist-free zone that is industry pool, un-bias witnesses to each attempt are nearly always absent. Porsche may well have done a 7m38s lap with the Panamera, but they can’t show any video from industy pool. Why not? Because it’s a top-secret, cross-brand, industrial testing ground, obviously. If you want to shoot a fast onboard lap in perfect conditions you’ve got to rent the whole track (and pay for the video license too).

And even then, we’re brushing over the difference between a ‘pre-production’ prototype and a car you can buy in the dealer. For example, that Panamera above has stickers instead of headlights. I’ve seen other ‘pre-production’ cars with no interiors, plastic windows and even glass-fibre body panels.

That’s why I enjoy the SportAuto superlap. Sure, I’ve seen some dodgy press cars in my time, with spicy engine tunes and aggressive brake pads, but it’s better than nothing.

If not said before, the departure from the 996 design of the rear really makes this.

Trying to spec the Panamera, some interesting options include rear view camera, and those front cup holder covers. Also interested to note that "power steering plus" is optional, along with all active safety features.

Typical of the Stuttgart manufacturers. I can understand why some things are optional but having to pay extra for those cup holder covers in a car in this price segment is kind'a silly.

Does the car feature gesture control for the touch screen? It is absolutely a MUST with these cars.

I drive one with touchscreen and I have to rely on the steering wheel buttons to avoid distractions.

Its a no cost option.

Interior is beautiful.

Indeed. I used to think MB had the best interior styling right now, but with the new Panny interior Porsche has clearly overtaken them.

Who knows? Maybe the new A8 tops this, but I highly doubt it.

Please do.. this is the old gen N ring times:

I will. The new Panamera is a fat pig after all, as pretty as it is. The new M5 will be much lighter....and will have much more power.

Comparing a cramped sportscar interior to a full blown limousine is not cool.

So they actually went backwards with the new one..lol:D

Yeah you keep believing that. Make that picture perfect in your head.
