Official: Mercedes-Benz Shooting Break Concept

The interior looks great, but a little bmw-ish than the current E class and C classes for example, especially how the centre screen is placed etc. some will disagree but just try comparing.
And then the exterior isn't anything special is it? some of the lines are still a bit silly

it´s a good looking car but why is MB so much coping BMW ???? look at te interior of the concept and of the 7 series..........and you will see what I mean.

brilliant i LOVE this car i really love the rear and i must say the side is excellent i really like the way the lines have been done i know some wont like it but for me its awesome..

The interior i can not say enough off how brilliant it is but i have a inner feeling this will not go to the real car i expect the real car to be toned down if this interior goes to the CLS with that exterior then my order is a done deal...

Now, that you see the concept, you know that I have not lied about the headlights of the new CLS and their resemblance to those of the ODC from 2006.:D

But I must say:although the car is so cool(and very, very close to the production form), that interior(most of which-70 to 80% of it will officially be introduced on the new CLS at Paris) is too similar to those of BMW. Not bad, all in all, but we are in a car that's supposed to be and it is a Mercedes-Benz.

Looks very nice, I love the paintjob, and the side lines are well executed after all. However, I'm disappointed by the ugly BMWish hood shutline.

The rear is stunning too, and I love the interior (some Audi inspiration, but still very MB and very nice).

But I'm somehow left a bit cold. It's clinically beautiful in a sense, but it somehow lacks a bit of something. Maybe it's the Shooting Break guise, maybe not, I don't know. Maybe I need to digest it too.:t-hands:

Very good-looking besides the hood line, but I still think the current CLS more sensual.

I'm liking this, the lines in the side look good, I didn't think they would, but it works. I love little details like the ventilation in the dashboard, that's nicely done. However, I do have one serious problem: MB has shifted so many times with their design strategy, take away the huge star/grille, this car could really be from any brand. It depends on the logo to heavily.

Absolutely stunning vehicle! Hope that the CLS will get this interior - because it's mind-blowing!!!

You know I hate to disagree with you Chris but I don't care about 0-60 numbers like that, but I want a C350 Sport with more than 268hp. This is Mercedes-Benz we're talking about and whether or not it matters all that much or not, they shouldn't be so far behind (especially in the U.S. market) when it comes to engines, specifically their V6 engines.

The C300 in particular just doesn't have a good engine anymore. Its thirsty and isn't all that powerful either. Its time for an upgrade. I'll take the 306hp engine. I'll take whatever improvement they give at this point.

I agree that the engines in the C-Class are a bit old, but most consumer feedback indicates that fuel economy is very much the result of their driving style. If you look at the consumer feedback on the fuel economy of their W204 C-Classes, the gas mileage they report isn't as bad as the EPA makes it sound. Furthermore, the EPA has been widely criticized for its testing methods.

Also, if Americans are so desperate for fuel economy then why don't they embrace the new 4-cylinder gasoline/diesel C-Classes we have in Europe? They're already driving Mercedes-Benz, that's enough prestige right there. What's under the hood really doesn't make the car any more or less prestigious. Also, given that most MB customers in the US drive relatively sedated, these smaller engines should be more than perfect for their driving style - and they're quick to.

Christian, I do agree, it's not about all-out speed, but throwing a turbo on there ought to be more powerful than a N/A version of it. Unless this is tuned to be much more efficient, there shouldn't be an excuse.

This was a post from an overpriced Toyota forum. :D

Wait, this has a 3.5L V6 turbo, yet only achieves 306 HP and 273 lb-ft torque? This is a failure IMHO. Much of the competition achieves as much or more power from naturally aspirated V6 engines.

If this an upcoming Benz engine, it will already be a step behind the competition by the time it comes out.

It baffles me how people always want more horsepower and then bitch about fuel economy.

I'll say it again: 306-horsepower are OVERPOWERED to most people. Only driving enthusiasts who enjoy extreme performance or people with prestige based on horsepower issues will scream for more. Most normal people, even those looking at a Mercedes, will find the performance and horsepower rating more than sufficient.

That said, I do hope that Mercedes brings out a 350-hp+ version of this engine in order to shut up the haters. :D

Hey MBZ FAN in terms off the interior what will be different in the real CLS and do you think the CLS shooting concept will come to production...

thanks pantazerro for the pics...

The steering wheel and the dials are just awesom i really love the interior..

The one thing i dont like is the shut line on the front its not the best thing in the design i suppose...

But the rear and the side is just mindblowing overall i must say this is just fantastic...

I for one dont really get any BMW resembalance on the interior..Well to me it has a bit off E class and a bit off the current CLS lets see the final for now i love this car and i think MB has done a great job....:icondrool:icondrool

Well, the Shooting Break Concept will sometime make it to production version. In maybe one year, or 2, from now on, we shall see such a model from Mercedes-Benz. As it is developed on the same platform as the upcoming CLS, it could be revealed as series car much earlier than expected. Of course, Mercedes-Benz also wants to assess how the public receives the new concept(it's basically the same path they followed back in 2003 with the VISION CLS), so the decision of producing or not the SBC as series model pretty much depends on that.

As far as the "traditional" CLS is concerned, the dashboard to be found on it will resemble the one seen on the SBC. The steering wheel, the instrument cluster, the positioning of certain controls on the center console, as well as the COMAND display-all of them will be very similar.

thank You MBZFAN for you input and reply..

I really cant wait to see the CLS come onn MB stop Arsing around now...

I must say i was really worried off the interior off the upcoming CLS but today i am very very happy and excited by what Mercedes have done with the interior..

My minor criticism is the front i think they could have done slightly better the rest is just majestics those rear lights are splendid:t-cheers:

If you don't mind, I am MBZ Fan, not MBZFAN(another user of GCF:usa7uh:). You can call me Adrian, if you want.

Magnificent Benz.

If they make this thing alongside the CLS down the line then I'd be most impressed. Nevertheless, this bodes very nicely for the actual CLS due sooner rather that later I assume...

As for the 60 degree V6 discussion, for proper MB background info we'd have to ask Unterturkheim or Gullwing to chip in but, for what it's worth, I can tell you that the current M272 engine is a 90 degree unit which supposedly has its origins in the M112 V6 engine (which has much in common with the M113 V8). 60 degrees is the optimum cylinder angle for a V6 engine in terms of primary balance. In fact, the M112 and M272 both necessitate balancer shaft as a result of their 90 degree cylinder bank angles. 90 degree angles are the optimum for V8's and I can only surmise that Mercedes Benz struck upon the 90 degree angle in order to maintain some form of modularity between the V6 M112 and the V8 M113.

I feel that the return to the V6 angle of 60 degrees has more to do with optimum balance and refinement than it has to do with the future implementation of turbocharging (though it certainly does help in this respect too from a packaging perspective).
