EQS [Official] Mercedes-Benz EQS

The Mercedes-Benz EQS (V297) is a battery electric full-size luxury liftback car produced by Mercedes-Benz Group and part of the Mercedes-Benz EQ family. It was released in September 2021 in Germany and the fourth quarter of 2021 in the United States.
It looks like there’s a competition at Mercedes Benz who’s gonna develop the most unsuccessful car in the history of this company.

We have the EQS(especially the EQS53 AMG), the C63SE and now we’re getting the GTXX and the AMG GT XX SUV.

I guess the race to the bottom will be very tight, the GT XX might somehow win this race.

BTW I found in the German magazine (manager Magazin )the production numbers of 2024 ( 30000 EQE and 6000 EQS).
60000 EQS/year were originally planned.

In 2024 581 C63SE were sold on the German market.

BMW sold 3908 M3/M4 in 2024 on the same market.

Audi RS4/RS5 2449.
Those EQE and EQS yearly numbers are really pathetic and count for only 10% of yearly E-class (approx 300K) and S-class (approx. 60K) cars produced. Imagine how many of those production cars are not been sold and stuck on dealers floors or in their car parks.

Wow I am shocked that only 581 C63SE were sold in Germany in 2024, gees that must be a fraction of the numbers for the previous V8 W205 model as those were seen in large numbers especially the gorgeous coupe. No wonder Mercedes are dumping the 4-cylinder and replacing it with a straight 6.

Presumably sold to dealerships

I have an EQS right now and love it. My lease is up in a year. I was looking at my dealer's website and noticed they had zero EQs in stock. I called my sales guy who I am very close with considering I have now leased 3 MBs with him and asked why they had zero EQs. He said they are not ordering any unless a customer orders one themselves because the dealer is not willing to take the hits they have been taking on them.

Yeah, same thing is happening in my area with EQ’s now being order-only. After 2-3 years of struggling to move units, this has become the strategy of US dealerships to improve the inventory turns metrics. In addition, EQ’s that return from lease go straight to auction.

The production of those models has screeched to a halt. We haven't had a new EQ arrive in 6 months. Inventories are actually miniscule. I would kill for some of the lease deals from 2023 and 2024. The EQE made the most sense in terms of competing in that space, but Mercedes really failed to promote it. You could lease an EQS for less. Think about that.

I always thought that was strange. The EQE deals were never as good as the EQS.

In any event, I’m glad MB listened to their dealers and eased up a bit. From what I understand they will be increasing production come facelift time but it will be conservative.

Ouch. Nothing says failed product like dealers that refuse to carry them.

That's not completely accurate. Mercedes is just sending production to states where they sell. Not all dealers are EQ dealers, as they didn't want to invest the capital to have the tools and training to work on them. Yes, they can refuse them. But, dealers can't just arbitrarily reject inventory.

Are you guys sending EQ lease returns straight to auction? The dealers around me refuse to hold on to EQ’s as CPO inventory since they tank in value by the minute basically.

If we can buy them for the right price, yes, we keep them. Otherwise, all lease returns go back to Mercedes financial. The dealer has no financial obligation or liability, and never sends a lease turn in to auction. MBFS might. Mercedes would be well served to offer a pre-owned lease program.

In Switzerland the dealers need to take them back, that’s why they refuse to lease them.

EQE/EQS are basically dead. All hopes are on the new CLA.

The dealers that do or can sell them are not carrying them is the point. No way to get around it not being a success. Production is being stopped for the US market anyways so it’s a moot point.
