E-Class (W214) [Official] New Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W214)

The sixth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class executive car is a lineup consisting of three body styles, the W214 sedan, S214 estate, and the X214 all terrain estate, which are vehicles produced by German luxury vehicle manufacturer Mercedes-Benz Group since 2 May 2023.

The W214 E220d sedan is no. 2 on my list for next company car. I’m that impressed. Only drawback is it’s a bit big for my needs.
Once you get behind the wheel of the W214 it feels smaller to drive than the cars size suggests, plus the benefit is more rear space and a much larger boot than a C-class or 3-series. Then you have the added refinement and long distance comfort, its a jack of all trades to drive.

I haven’t seen a bad review of it yet. It’s a true return to form. Mercedes just needs to execute at this level on everything they make. If you can’t then don’t build it.

What else are you considering Martin?

What are your impressions and pros and cons of the W214.

Interested to hear your take on the car mate. To me it's probably the most thoroughly resolved E in some time, even if there is evidence that costs have been saved, its a pretty impeccable, conventional ICE proposition.

Are you considering the 5?

Easily my fav E since the W124. Only the W211 is in the same space for me.

To be honest I think the W213 Pre FL is also in the same space. Its an excellent car to drive and to be in. The only weakness I have experienced with my car is the creaky noises from some interior parts but for other other things it is brilliant.

They are so close for me. The W211 is sublimely timeless. Its just the underlying quality issues that were a problem pre FL.

Still better than looking at that fugly hyperscreen the whole day.
W211 any day for me. The interior, rear lights and grille area of the W214 are just too much of an eye sore despite the indeed lovely proportions. But the W211 has lovely proportions too without the glaring drawbacks.

The hyperscreen/superscreen is not standard fitment to most variants across most markets. Howevever there are some markets where it is the standard specification for some models.

The W211 is beautiful without a doubt, but it was not perfect in terms of engineering or qaulity either, and I can recall many issues we had with our E320 and the model in general.

We rarely disagree my friend lol. I hate the W213 now. When I see it I gag. It looks like an egg and the facelift made it worse imo.

The W214 is currently my favorite M-B sedan. The responsible design team did a remarkable job.

It does surprise me a bit that the W/S214 is lagging behind the G60/61 5er in unit sales. And now, the new C9 Audi A6, especially in Avant form, is beginning to give it quite a run for it's money as well. M-B at risk of falling to third place in the German "Big 3" upper-executive unit sales sweepstakes ?

Having driven the w214 and w213 back to back, and also with the w211 in the garage. The w214 is superior to the w213, especially in the area of suspension tuning and ride comfort. The interior build quality of the w214 also feels more solid as well but it is let down by questionable choices of interior materials and the rather plan door panel designs. Despite the initial quality concerns after the launch, our 2005 w211 is holding up very well and it is the car I drive the most. It feels old school solid, comfortable and luxurious. It is also surprisingly spacious without being oversized like the modern cars.

W214 is selling more than G60.

Here is some information available to "the common person" on the Internet:

"In 2025, the BMW 5 Series (G60) reclaimed the title of the world’s best-selling executive car, overtaking the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W214). While both models launched around the same time, BMW’s flexible powertrain strategy (offering ICE, PHEV, and the electric i5 on one platform) gave it a significant volume advantage, particularly in Europe and the US.
2025 Global Sales Performance
As of the end of Q3 2025, the BMW 5 Series leads the segment with a global market share of approximately 5.7%, while the Mercedes-Benz E-Class follows in third place (behind the Audi A6) with a 5.1% share.

Key Drivers of the Gap
  • The "i5" Factor: BMW’s electric variant, the i5, has been a massive success, frequently outselling the Mercedes EQE. By integrating the electric model into the 5 Series lineup rather than a separate brand, BMW consolidated its sales figures more effectively.
  • Regional Shifts: * Europe: The 5 Series saw a dramatic 56% surge in demand in early 2025, while the E-Class grew by a more modest 19%.
    • China: Mercedes-Benz has historically dominated China, but increased competition from domestic luxury EVs and a general 27% decline in Mercedes' Chinese sales in Q3 2025 allowed BMW to close the gap.
    • USA: BMW passenger car sales grew nearly 10% in 2025, whereas Mercedes faced a 6% decline in the U.S. market.
  • Production & Availability: Mercedes-Benz faced more significant supply chain headwinds and "generational shifts" in 2024/2025, which slowed the initial ramp-up of the W214 compared to the G60.
Model Philosophy Comparison
The sales data reflects a split in consumer preference for 2025:
  • BMW G60: Attracted "tech-forward" buyers and those wanting a sporty driving experience, with the M5 Touring and i5 M60 acting as strong halo models.
  • Mercedes W214: Remained the choice for traditional luxury and comfort, but its reliance on a high-price strategy and the "Superscreen" technology received a more polarized reception from legacy buyers."

Ditto! Just the other day I said the 213 looks bubbly, I couldn't quite explain why, but "egg" describes it perfectly. The E-Classes I adore include the obligatory 124, 210 (facelift), 211, 212 (pre-facelift), and now the W214. The current E is head and shoulders above the 213 in every metric, IMO. It's just a sublime car.
