S-Class W222 [Official] Mercedes-Benz S 65 AMG (W222)

The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class produced from 2013 to 2020, serving as the successor to the W221 S-Class and predecessor to the W223 S-Class. The W222 has a similar design theme to the C-Class (W205) and E-Class (W213).
JLamg, welcome. It was just yesterday I checked MBWorld after a very long absence, and noticed your thread about the car. Great to see you here.

Thanks for comments. .
A few notes - comparing the S550 and S65
The S550 is a wonderful car - the best Mercedes Sedan that I have driven. Great technology and ride; major improvements in finish.
The S65 is just amazing - take all of that, add an incredible power curve, incredible attention to detail on interior, and an all around package that takes automotive engineering and technology to a new height.
For wine aficionados - the comparison is like a Caymus Cab compared to a Chateau Latour. .

A few more updates after a week with the S65. . .
1) Power curve continues to amaze. . easy to get to 80 on the freeway without thinking about it. Just smooth progressive increase in power
2) Burmester high end/3D performs phenomenally well
3) Seat adjustments are near infinite
4) I love the HUD
5) We have settled on light purple ambient lighting to complement the silk beige and grey interior. Will try to grab some pictures tonight
Cheers
J

A few inside nighttime pictures - but iPhone pics don't give impression of "soothing" lighting

Everything is right about this car, that is until you sit behind the steering wheel and have to look at that ghastly LCD panel pretending to be an instrument cluster. Onn a vehicle like this real gauges should be used.

These days cars have so many functions that it is impossible to display them all on just one LCD panel.

There have not been real gauges on an S Class since the 140.

The only thing I dislike about the interior is the tacky club like ambient lighting (posted pictures reaffirm my opinion). Thankfully, it can be changed to look less like a strip club and more like a luxury sedan.

The light comes with ladies, don't you know?

:) In that case turn up the pink lights and cue the Cherry Pie song...that would be a good night.

LA girl: "You guys are like the cash cab"...argument confirmed about the lights haha!

A few things:
1) The exterior and interior of the W222 is poorly served by pictures. When viewed in person the form of the car is remarkable and masculine. The interior lighting gets distorted in pictures at night - the color palate and the intensity is in the control of the owner. We currently are driving 2 2015 W222's - one with black interior and one picture - silk beige and grey. Color choice of the lighting correlates to the interior color.
2) The electronic dash (W221 and W222) takes away from the feeling of luxury and legacy. . but the trade-offs are a variety of newer technologies like night vision
3) At the end of the day, these cars represent the pinnacle of automotive technologies - and showcase it in every way

I understand that but Mercedes have made a hash of it. It looks ugly and out of place in a car which is as expensive as an S Class.

I was dreaming about my ultimate desire on wheel and thought of configure my choice. Then noticed an exclusive change in interior, new three spoke steering wheel from S coupe. Any news on the same.

The pictures don't do the interior full justice - the "gray" - is really a metallic with a sheen to it. The semi-aniline is the softest of the leathers. . and the detail on the leather finish throughout out is missed by casual viewer. Thanks for the post!

My Pleasure, and I too have felt the animation need to be more realistic, even in case of exterior pics. But my query is about the steering wheel.

^ Seems the new steering wheel became available for 2015? :)

The S65 AMG has a Nappa leather AMG sports steering wheel, the S 600 long a multifunction steering wheel in wood-leather version.

Saw this vid; nothing exciting, but some thing better than nothing. So after after the German based media's short reviews, this is the only video of new S65 I've seen, hence sharing:

Wolfgang, you are absolutely correct. I again went through S-class configurator; new S600 have 3-spoke steering with wood & S65 have it in nappa leather.

Where as in mercedes-benz.de, initially as default this interior came with 2-spoke wheels...

but when I changed the leather & trim option I got this, 3 spoke wheels but with out wood.
