E-Class W213 [Official] Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213

The W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, sold from 2016 as a 2017 model. It succeeded the W212/S212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. The high-performance Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63S versions of the W213 have been available as well from 2016 (as a 2017 model), and these are the only versions with V8 engines.
And so.. the horror story continues....

Hi all,

I have finally managed to drive my car for 1 full week of daily routines on a full tank solely on Comfort mode. This is what I managed to achieve below. (edit: I had 1/4 tank left when I top up back to full again yesterday.)

About 80% city/urban driving and only 20% on our local highways. To be honest, I only hit 9th gear less than 7 times..... As mentioned in my earlier post within this thread (OFFICIAL - Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213), I don't enjoy the drag when the car shifts down gear. It felt jerky to me.

On mornings where I travel on highway, I was hitting average speed of 80km/hr and I did achieve a best of 5.9litre/100km fuel efficiency on Comfort mode.
Today is my 1st day on Eco mode. I am not sure if it is psychological or there is a real difference... I found that the suspension is less firm on Eco mode and the downward shifting of gear is smoother in Eco mode compared to Comfort mode. Another curious thing I noticed was that when I release the accelerator pedal at about 100km/hr, the gear turned from 9 to a green D with a box. I think it was in coasting mode... and it was actually quite pleasant cruising. Didn't feel the drag when it shifts down to Gear 8.

To be honest.... I actually prefer my morning drive on Eco mode even though it was my 1st drive on it.

Btw built date has been confirmed 11 Jan 2018, arriving in Australia at around the end of March and should be ready in April. Just thinking of replacing the standard grill with the diamond grill from the coupe.

I replaced my standard grill with the diamond grill. The diamond grill won quite a few fans amongst my friends and colleagues. Most important of all... my wife!

That is nice, will like to see some photo! Which version of the diamond grill did you get, the one on the E 43, the gloss black one or the silver one. Did you replace it yourself? I heard the front bumper has to come off in order to reach the front grill.

I posted my car in this thread - https://www.germancarforum.com/threads/hello-new-owner-joined-the-merc-camp.57514/#post-857516

I got the silver one to match the colour of my car. I got the workshop to install and yes the front bumper had to come off. Do remember to get the grill with the slots for the 360 camera. It is definitely pricey compared to buying online... but I wanted a peace of mind so the workshop ordered original parts for me.

Thanks for that, I have missed your thread completely! I just saw the pricing as well, I got quoted $1000 AUD for one...crazy expensive for a piece of plastic.

Well... that's close to what we were quoted in Singapore...... I suppose it has to be seen in the context that we pay for the price of the car.

That's an interesting observation, because the suspension in Eco-mode is in fact stiffer and the car as a whole lies a bit lower than in Comfort-mode.

Really? I was only told that the suspension for the Sports mode sits 5mm lower than the Comfort and Eco mode. Initially, I thought both Eco and Comfort have the same suspension setting. I have only just driven in Eco mode for 40km using the same route as the Comfort mode. I believe the Eco mode is softer or it could be my imagination. But my wife did say it was more comfortable ride in Eco mode.

The steering for Sports is also stiffer than Comfort and Eco mode.

That steering in sportsmode is stiffer than in comfort-and eco mode is only logical. To safe fuel in the ecomode it's also logical the car lies a bit lower, because the car has a better streamline in that way. The W213 I drove thusfar were all most comfortable in ... comfortmode :)

I did spent a good 4 days driving a E 200 around. To me I didn't experience any dragging effect when I lift off, and the gear shifts are all seamless and smooth in Comfort and Econ mode. The throttle response is a bit too soft in Eco mode for my liking though.

I was quite intrigued with my newfound driving experience on Eco mode.

So I took a snapshot of it on the drive home yesterday through moderate to heavy traffic on our local highway.

This morning, I took another snapshot.... I am really sorry... I have no idea why the picture is upside down when I posted it. I can't seem to correct it. But for those who has a desktop monitor/laptop and cannot rotate your monitor... (sorry!), let me explain...

I found out that everytime when I release the gas pedal and let the vehicle cruise in Eco mode... the vehicle will shift to a 'D' gear in green box. The rev will drop down to between 700 and 900 rpm as the vehicle cruises. There is no such mode when in Comfort. So this is another difference between the two modes. While I agree with Monster the kickoff from acceleration is lesser in Eco mode compared to Comfort mode.... but given the urban driving conditions in my part of the world... I find that acceptable.

Yeah that's the gliding mode, it is really nice as the car revs almost as in Neutral, the clever thing about it is that the car will cancel glide mode once the radar detects any car in front of you to supply easy braking when needed.
Lastly, you can turn gliding mode of by de-activating engine on/off function.

I have been playing around with the Individual mode. My current setting is as follows: Engine (Eco), Steering (Sports), Auto Cut-off (OFF).

I am not sure if there is a bug in the programming or not. But I have noticed the following behaviour:

1. In the morning, when I drive to work, I would select the 'Individual' mode with my preferred setting as above.
2. However, if I were to do a short milk run... and restart my car engine again within a 4 hour window.. I noticed a strange behaviour.
3. The setting would still be in Individual mode... BUT the auto cut-off would be 'ON' instead of the 'OFF' setting. This is even though I have already configured it to 'OFF' mode.

I wonder if anyone has similar experiences?

Actually I somehow fell the E class intelligent most of the times, but in some small details it is not that intelligent, I hate that the driving preference resets after couple of hours, at least it should be configured with the key (such as BMW). I think this is not a bug in the system but a stupid configuration by MB.

Saw a polar white E class and C class parked next to each other. Even for me it takes a second to really tell them apart from the front, but from the side the difference is much more obvious.

A very rare sighting seeing them both with the same trim line and wheels..it goes to show what exactly the E Class is - a suitably refined variation of the C Class design, but maybe a bit too similar though:pompous:
