E-Class W213 [Official] Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213

The W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, sold from 2016 as a 2017 model. It succeeded the W212/S212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. The high-performance Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63S versions of the W213 have been available as well from 2016 (as a 2017 model), and these are the only versions with V8 engines.
And then we have this guy, it is apparently a E 350d..."transformed to the E 43" Got to get them AMG badges...

Starting to see more E class with the exclusive line/traditional grill. Captured this E220d yesterday, exclusive line in diamond silver, and the standard 18" wheels. It is a highly personal choice, good on the owner for getting the exact car he wanted.

I see you're in the E350 W211. How is it holding up after all these years?

Almost like a brand new car still, there is not a single rattle, the ride is incredibly smooth and the interior is very quiet even compare to modern standards. Mechanically it has been faultless, the SBS unit is still working fine, the original batteries lasted for 11.5 years as well! There are minor maintenance items such as the rubber seals for the fuel line that needed to be replaced due to age but that is it. There is no blown lights either.

The interior is solid as ever, however the matte clear coat around the headlight switch panel has gone all sticky and the plastic covers around the base of the front seats have harden with age and one of the cover has developed a crack.

The COMMAND unit however is having its moments. the NAV doesn't work anymore and the audio function skips occasionally. Overall not bad for a car approaching its 13th year.

That's nice to know. (y)

@Monster did you have problems with balance shaft gear? Intake manifold lever?
Thankfully no, but I have read about these problems on the MB forum. I think given the relatively low mileage of 64 500 km and the fact that the car rarely revs above 4000 rpm means it hasn't really been stressed that much. There isn't much opportunity to do so. However I have started to floor it once or twice a week when I drive it, just to loosen/clean things up.

I really think the W211 is underrated, despite some areas of cost cutting it is still a proper MB tank like the old days, both for the exterior and the interior. This is especially evident compare to the current generation of MB.

I will probably spend some money on the car this coming year, wanting to get the slightly bigger 17" wheels with the same style and perhaps fix the COMMAND unit.

It's reassuring to know that even the pre FL W211 is holding up so well despite all the critique surrounding the pre FL cars...

Probably for 2002 to 2004 built cars, our W211 was a Feb 2005 built so it was the 3rd year of production, perhaps that is the reason why. Hopefully our W213 will be just the same.

That may well be the case because 2005 was the period when the quality drive really came into play, imo the late W211s are hugely attractive used buys having gorgeous styling and strong build quality with refinement, particularly the FL..

I do wish you the very best for your W213, any inital quality complaints should hopefully be cleared out for your car (being a later build) it should be a properly made MB(y)

Now that the W213 has been on sale in Australia for 1.5 years, they are starting to become more common on the road. Saw the W213 and the W212 parked together. I am actually surprised that the W212 didn't look that dated at all compare to the W213.

Well @Monster I have to say that the photo you just posted made me like the pre-FL W212 even more if I'm brutally honest.

I really don't like the FL W212. Look how weird the grille looks.

I am pretty confident in saying this: the E-Class looks even better in real-life than in photos as opposed to the 5 Series which - whilst an eminently good looking car - is a tad underwhelming in the tin compared to photos in which it looks terrific.

It’s a funny phenomenon isn’t it? My appreciation for the E has grown immensely after seeing more and more on the road.

The 5 is still of course very handsome in the metal, if not as entirely alluring as it comes across in many photos.
