6 Series [Official] BMW 6er Gran Coupe

The BMW 6 Series is a range of grand tourers produced by BMW since 1976. It is the successor to the E9 Coupé. The first generation BMW E24 6 Series was available solely as a two-door coupé and produced from 1976 to 1989, when it was supplanted by the larger BMW 8 Series (E31). When the 6 Series nameplate was revived in 2004 for the second generation, the BMW E63/E64 6 Series, the coupé was joined by a convertible body style. The third generation F06/F12/F13 6 Series debuted in 2011 as a coupé and convertible, and a sedan variant known as the "Gran Coupé" in 2012. When the F06/F12/F13 6 Series ended production, the "Gran Coupé"/coupé/convertible models shifted into the more upmarket BMW 8 Series (G15) nameplate. The fourth generation 6 Series, the G32 6 Series, debuted in mid-2017 and is offered only as a fastback body style to complement the BMW 5 Series (G30) sedan/wagon.
Should we follow the logic: looking good just with big rims = bad design?.

It´s something that could be applied to a lot of cars, but certanly this one is one of them, unlike the 5er.

No of course not. The design is solid I think. I have to to wait until April to see it. Yep the 5 looks good in 528i trim in the U.S. market with small wheels. Hence the reason I want a M5.

I am putting down my 1K in a few weeks to get on the waiting list. It will be either an M5 or a 6 GC M/sport. M5 doesn't arrive until August and its unlikely I would be in that first batch now. 6er GC arrive in June I think.

M

Between those two, M5 all the way.

Between M5 or 6 Series Coupe, loaded up to the gills, 6-Series Coupe. :D

If you crave M5 power (don't know how anyone can justify use for that power in anything near a legal and responsible fashion on public roads), then you can always get a Dinan tune on the 6er (which I believe is backed by BMW Warranty) which will make similar power to an M5 anyway.

How it looks IRL?

Just like 6er coupe ... with longer WB, stretched roof line & an extra pair of doors.

So, if you like 6er Coupe, you'll like GC too. And if not, then the GC won't do any magic for you neither.

The only difference are the proportions: the GC looks much more elegant & less chubby than the Coupe - due to bigger length. And the size gives it more presence, that's for sure.
But being less compact makes it a bit less sporty in appearance. Since naturally more compact 2dr coupes looks sportier than their 4dr sedanish siblings, don't they?

About styling ... definitely safer styling and design than the "rivals" - A7 & Panamera are hunchbacks, and therefore more exotic. While CLS sheet metal styling is more expressive & therefore perhaps a bit more interesting yet less elegant. As for modernity: all look modern, no doubt here. Especially when packed with LED headlights.

Yet perhaps some will find it - just like they did with 6er Coupe - a bit on the boring side. Too safe, perhaps. Too classic. But it's interesting the 6er GC is the only "classic" sedanesque 4dr coupe in this segment - and that it comes with a price, as we can see (check the price list few pages back). So it's positioned along with Panamera: which is a hatch - sportier, yet less elegant. Just like the other two (A7 & CLS) compete with each other: one being a hatch, the other a sedan. Yet in this latest case the sedan is styled more expressively, and the hatch has more restrained styling - and actually looks more elegant.

2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe Priced at $76,895 in the States, See How it Compares with its Rivals

The 640i Gran Coupe is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six gasoline engine delivering 315hp at 5,800 to 6,000 rpm and 330 lb-ft of peak torque on stream between 1,300 and 4,500 rpm. Power channeled to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission.

BMW says the 4+1 seater model is capable of delivering a 0 to 62 mph (0-100km/h) sprint time of 5.4 seconds and an electronically governed top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). EPA fuel economy ratings have not yet been announced, but in the EU cycle, the 640i Gran Coupe is rated at 7.8 lt/100km (30.1 mpg).

Later in the summer, BMW will enhance the range with 445-horsepower 650i Gran Coupe in both RWD and xDrive (AWD) flavors with pricing to be announced at a later date.

Back to the 640i Gran Coupe, with a starting price of US$76,895 (including $895 Destination and Handling Charge), BMW demands a $3,295 premium over the 640i Coupe ($76,300).

More importantly, the 640i Grand Coupe costs $16,000+ more than the base version of the Audi A7 Sportback ($60,125 including DH fee) that's powered by a 310hp 3.0-liter supercharged V6, and $10,440 more than the range-topping "Prestige" trim level with the same engine.

The BMW model is even more expensive than the new Mercedes CLS550, which comes with a 4.6-liter turbocharged V8 producing 402 horses and a starting price of $72,175 (including a $875 destination and handling fee).

It is however priced very close to the base Porsche Panamera saloon, which is powered by a 300hp 3.6-liter V6 and costs $75,200.

2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe Starts at $76,895; It’s the Most-Expensive Six-Cylinder BMW

BMW has announced that the entry-level iteration of the 2013 6-series Gran Coupe, the six-cylinder 640i, will start at $76,895. That means the Gran Coupe’s extra style relative to the 535i sedan—with which the 640i shares its turbocharged inline-six and a lot of DNA and componentry—will cost buyers an additional $23,000. That princely sum buys you an extra 15 hp and 30 lb-ft of torque (for totals of 315 and 330), plus more standard equipment than the 535i.

Of course, BMW didn’t pull the Gran Coupe’s price out of thin air; stickers for the two-door 640i coupe begin at $74,495, so the two additional doors are a bargain at $1200 each. Still, the Gran Coupe starts $5000 higher than the larger 740i sedan powered by the same 315-hp six.

The Bavarian beauty’s sticker shock isn’t limited to comparisons with other BMWs. Mercedes-Benz’s swoopy CLS, now in its second generation (after having created the “four-door coupe” segment) costs $4720 less. And that’s for the “base” CLS550 with a 402-hp, 4.7-liter twin-turbocharged V-8. BMW’s equivalent 650i Gran Coupe also packs a twin-turbocharged V-8, but doesn’t go on sale until later this year and doesn’t yet have a price—given that the two-door 650i coupe starts at $83,895, we’re betting on a base near $86K. The V-8 car’s optional all-wheel drive will, of course, send the total even higher.

That definitely rules out the GC for me.

Wait six months and buy a used one for half the price. :)

Actually, I don't know how the used market works in the U.S. but I know some markets where this car is going to depreciate like a brick. It has all the characteristics of a heavily depreciating car.

I am not sure it will depreciate like that at least here in EU.

Good point.
For the price BMW wants for this thing I might as well go with the Panny, it will be different if this was the CS but for basically a 4-door 6 series:I am not a buyer.

Me 2 man. Shame on them pricing it that high. a 650gc costs as much as M5 in my country. who in his sane mind would buy a GC over an M5 ? No matter how good the design is, it doesn't justify it.

A big, overpriced "coupe" (even if t has four doors). The previous 6 Series was a depreciation King.

Often these kinds of cars are bought as company cars for someone who has their own business, and then eventually they get moved on and replaced by something else. As much as BMW would like to think it deserves it's price premium, if the previous 6 Series is anything to go by, the market won't. Certainly not the second hand market.

As an example of how much cars can depreciate, I was in a BMW showroom a few months ago. They had a 7 Series (730d) M Sport, with most of the nice options installed. It was 6 months old and had done 8,000 miles. The list price was around £66,000. It was on sale for £38,000! Ouch! Nearly £30,000 in six months. I actually thought I'd misread the mileage and it was 80,000 miles. But no.

THE Depreciation kings: Mercedes-Benz S-class, BMW 7 Series, Audi A8 + Audi TT, SLK, Z4 + E-class, BMW 5er + Audi A6.....And here in Sunny SA Audi's depreciate the most especially the A8, want one? cheap? buy it here!

The German Premium brand with the least depreciation is Porsche, yet the Panamera fails to keep up with it's siblings. It's a car we can ad to it's rivals i.e. S-class, 7 Series, A8
