Sorry k-a but weren't you horrified by the design approach that mb taken since the w212 ?
Yes, I was. Now I'm kind of in the middle (hit or miss). I've really come to understand some, and fallen in love with them all over again, so much so that I think they're the most beautiful cars on the road (like the W212, W221, W204, SLS, etc., to an extent, for example), others I'm still in limbo about (like the CLS).
But, I will chalk much of my eager disdain for M-B's current designs up to being someone who had just boughten an older model, and was pissed at himself for not waiting. That said, I LOVE the idea of owning a car for a long time, and growing with it after the newer designs come out, etc..... I just would have liked more than a year of a current body style to experience.
To close, I won't be one of those "here-today-gone-tomorrow" wishy-washy types and say that the new models blow the old ones away, but I will say that I find some of them to properly evolve my favorite brand.
As for BMW, it had been so long since I'd loved a model, I'm just now starting to remember those classic models that I used to fawn over, and dream about. Not to mention, BMW's were all around me when growing up, had them all over the family, passed my driving test in one, probably spent about 4,000 hours in a late 90's 7-Series, drove and can still remember the sounds, nuances, performance, smells etc., of a mid-90's 5-Series, and E39 5-Series, drove an E60 around before I bought my W220 S-Class, etc. etc. etc. (hated the E60, in comparison to the previous models).
Glad to have BMW back (I'll just pretend the SUV lineup isn't around.

To be fair, I'm equally harsh on M-B's "Made In America" SUV's).
