Could it be that BMW indeed sees its GTS and CSL badges as non-interchangeable due to having a slightly different philosophy, the former meaning more of a hardcore track weapon deliberately compromised for everyday use, the latter allowing for a thrilling purist/enthusiast experience indeed but less brash and rowdy and more pleasant and inviting to daily use?
...If this is true, then again, the entire potential BMW M portfolio could be thus arranged along the trackability spectrum:
M LM/LMDh (racecars ≡ GT1/GT2)
M GT3/GT4/GTR (racecars)
M GTS
M CSL
M CS
M Competition
M High Performance (base M)
M Performance
M Sport
(The M Performance accessory line ambiguously wearing the same name as the M Performance a.k.a. "M Lite" actual model range, while in fact offering a broad line of products spanning across pretty much the entire M spectrum).
