EQA [Official] The new 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQA EV

The Mercedes-Benz EQA is a battery electric subcompact luxury crossover SUV (C-segment) produced by Mercedes-Benz since February 2021. Part of the EQ family, the vehicle uses the MFA2 platform, which designates C-segment and smaller-sized D-segment vehicles which use a base front-wheel drive layout.
Sure, let’s wait and see the real numbers and don’t just guess around. Again, as with everyone else, what’s your alternative?
I know that I am dubbed here the Tesla fan (in fact I don't like the cars at all, but am truly impressed by the technology in them) but the Model Y is completely destroying it and on top of everything the German made Y will be cheaper, and not only this but it will carry much bigger profit margin than the EQA.

Have you noticed in like most of my posts above that I mentioned that in pure battery and electric motor tech Tesla is killing everyone, and most likely it won’t change much in the future? But while I’m also an admirer of the company and I give credit for them for the whole EV wave, their cars from purely a car perspective at this price suck. That built quality, those cheap materials, that “minimalist” but actually empty interior design... Noise from the outside is pouring in like on open windows, paint is coming off, etc. They are making incredible tech in many ways, but as a package, looking at it from every way I don’t see them as better than some of the existing, and most of the coming EVs. I would take a Taycan any time over the best specced Tesla, or even the coming e tron GT or EQS. I’m rooting for them to make their next generations cars better, that would be the win win for everyone.

The VW ID4 in Life Trim in Germany costs virtually the same as the EQA250 at 47020 Euros and has a 77kwHr battery (with 522km claimed WLTP) and slightly more power (150kw vs 140kw and 8.5sec vs 8.9sec from 0-100km/h) but uses more KwH/100km. 16.9 vs 15.7.

These are the transition vehicles.
Indeed. It is a transitional car but it has to commercially perform well.

Although the EQS and EQE will epitomise Mercedes' EV ambitious, they are very expensive. Model S, Lucid, Tycan, Etron GT, iNext, Rivian R1S, EQE and EQS will be in a red ocean of very expensive EV.

What the market needs is affordable premium EVs. The EQA fits the bill and has a significantly greater addressable market than the EQ saloon.

Volume = revenue = justification for large investments.

The Model 3 blows the Model S out of the water when it comes to sale. I don't think the facelifted Model S will change this. The cheaper car is well priced first EV and is feasible as a fleet car.

Mercedes must price the EQA competitively or else Teslas first mover advantage will only grow as they buile more factories to churn out as many Model 3 as they can.

Oh please...lol... is it a unique feature of the EQA, or Mercedes EVs? so bad arguments..., I wonder you don’t feel shame to post such an ignorant post...

I wasn't talking about MB, I was talking about EVs in general and how they react to cold weather. Oh boy sorry for sounding like I was badmouthing your precious brand.

THE EQA HIGH-VOLTAGE BATTERY ALONE WEIGHS AN IMPRESSIVE 480 KG

With the EQA, Mercedes-Benz has presented the entry-level model, which has a fully electric range of up to 486 km (according to NEDC). The model carries a high-voltage battery, which already weighs 480 kg.

High-voltage battery of the EQA

The high-voltage battery in the EQA - positioned below the passenger cabin in the middle of the vehicle - has the dimensions of 1,900 x 1,378 x 302 mm and a nominal capacity of around 190 Ah. The maximum power of the battery is 260 kW, the net usable capacity is 66.5 kWh. The battery itself consists of 200 lithium-ion cells in the form of 5 modules, the nominal voltage of which the manufacturer specifies as 368 volts and the maximum voltage as 420 volts.

Compared to combustion and plug-in hybrids

Looking at the weight of the EQA 250, the model weighs 2,040 kg when empty, with a payload of 430 kg. The gross vehicle weight is 2,470 kg. If you compare the EQA 250 with the combustion engined GLAs, for example with the GLA 250, you will quickly notice the different weights. The petrol version weighs just 1,485 kg empty, with a payload of 525 kg. The permissible total weight is then 2,010 kg. The plug-in hybrid GLA 250 4MATIC, on the other hand, has an unladen weight of 1,775 kg, with a payload of 520 kg (2,295 kg total weight).

EQA has to face its core competitors

Compared to the competition or the core competitors, Mercedes-Benz has positioned the EQA quite appropriately, whereby one has to consider the BMW i3S and the ID.3 from Volkswagen as well as the fully electric Hyundai KONA. However, the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric as well as the Polestar 2 and the Tesla Model Y also compete with the EQA.

Here is a comparison of the most important data (with power, energy content as well as maximum charging power and range with acceleration:

Thanks for the corrections. MB Passion corrected them in the meantime. The plug-in hybrid GLA 250 e doesn't have 4MATIC and the range of the model Y. :)

I am not loving the grill and light details on the EQA, I think the black shiny plastic full grill looks cheap and the shape of the grill and light intersections reminds me too much of other Korean and Japanese cars.

I've already seen an EQA in Norway, so where is Tesla's first mover advantage coming from, order a Y in Norway today and you might get it Q3. The base price for the Y is also 80K nok more than an EQA, 80K nok buys a lot of Mercedes accessories.

Have you seen it in real life? What are your impressions compared to photos? I’m asking because I never liked the EQC, I considered it too bulky, the headlights too big, the grill cheap, and the rear lights generic. But then when I saw it in real I really liked it, all the proportions looked just right, and the grill was no longer cheap looking. I wonder if this is the case with the EQA.
