A5/S5/RS5 New Audi A5 (spy pics & info), thread 2

The Audi A5 is a series of compact executive and grand touring coupé cars produced by Audi. Production: 2007-
Thanks for the news update, gosh even I didn`t know some of that information.

By Lambo's engine you mean the 5.0 lt V10 used in Gallardo? That engine was designed in Germany from Audi engineers just like the Aluminium frame in the Gallardo (it's essentially ASF) and almost every part of the car.
When Audi bought Lamborghini the company was almost dead , it didn't had the money, the engineers or the resources to compete with Ferrari and the rest. Gallardo and it's engine were made starting nearly from scratch using Audi know how and human resources.

BTW Audi is using an updated version of Gallardo's V10 in S6 with 5.2 lt displacement (instead of 5.0 lt) and direct fuel injection (FSI).

People are always under estimating audi. I think the chances of the RS5 getting a V10 is good seeing as the car is nearly A6 sized, and audi like to be innovative and a V10 will allow for more smoother and linear power delivery seeing as a RS5 would have around 500hp.

Wow, now thats pretty hot! Its going to be interesting to see how this stacks up to the BMW 3-series and MB CLK.

Again I can`t imagine the V10 fitted to such a small car, and even if it could fit looks like it would be very nose heavy.

The A5 is nearly A6 size and just because it has a big engine doesnt mean it will be nose heavy, thats just untechnical thinking. Engine placement combined with the chassis design is what determines weight distribution.h

Last months issue of Motortrend speaks of an A5 hatchback concept. Sounds like wishful thinking to me, especially given that's coming from Motortrend.

More of what we already know:

Audi’s new A5 coupe will be unveiled at the Geneva show in February, according to a senior company source. The A5 is the first car based on Audi’s new corporate platform, which promises to deliver definitively better ride and handling than the current line-up.

Our source also revealed that the new chassis can be tuned to deliver either understeer, neutral handling or oversteer. "Our research revealed that the majority of drivers prefer understeer at the limit, but the A5 chassis can also be tuned for more expert drivers," they said.

Audi’s current transmission layout – with the engine positioned longways ahead of the front axle – results in nose-heavy weight distribution. This can compromise the steering response and ride control.

The new platform is dubbed MLP, which stands for Modular Platform for longitudinally mounted engines. It is flexible enough to be used under the future A4, A6 and A8 and other spin-off models such as the A5.

A5 hatchback=Roadjet

So this is how the front part of the A5 will look like apart from some details like the bumper.

That's interesting Yannis, thanks! We all salivate over the Gallardo's sound but its actually a German-bred engine! Something in the case of the Carrera GT. German engineering.

Now filming in the Coastal regions and around the Cape Town area, They have an Ice Silver and Topaz Blue (new color) cars there.

Huckfeldt nailed it...

It's not very close.

Need glasses? :D

Looke at the shoulder line, door, side skirt, glasshouse, roof line ...

Yes, Huckfledt's A5 has too big wheels, and from that angle the front looks a bit too high. But that's it. Yes, headlights, grille & front bumper (air intake) can turn out to be slightly different, but Huckfeldt more or less nailed it. More than any other CGI artist.

Of course Scott will know it - seeing the car.

Btw, Scottie: Cape Town M3 shooting going as planned? Any "phone cell brigade" around? :D;)

Need glasses? :D

The front part is fat, the glass is very small , the wheels are huge , front lights and grille too rounded ect.

But if you are happy with it then i have no problem. My standards are higher.:D

I like Huckfeldt's impression.. I hope it turns out to be closer to that than anything else I have seen so far.

In my opinion this is much closer (apart from the shoulder line).

However in the rear part Huckfeldt has made it very close.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
