iPhone 5 2012

Why thank you! I study Apple like crazy, it's practically become a second job to me.

Yea I love Apple myself...iPad, iPhone, iPod, iPod touch...you name it, I've got it! Maybe one day I'll get the MacBook. The products have the best quality.

Same here! As a business and creative force, they inspire me, and their products excite me with that "Apple magic" factor. Check out the new Macbook Retina, it's absolutely gorgeous considering it's the biggest screen you can get on a device. The PC market seems to be dying slowly but surely with the revolution of iPad's/iPhone's that Apple created taking over, so this might be one of the last years that we can get one, unfortunately.

^I might just have to get one soon. These HP's (my current and last few laptops) are horrible. Good for a while and then error after error.

C'mon my good friend! Get on the good side here! :D

You mean "slide to unlock" feature (My Nexus has many options including a face unlock or a drawn pattern)? Or the icons are round or squared? Or pinch to zoom? You need to patent those? They look nothing alike.
This is the same company that launches a new phone or OS with things dumb phones were able to to do (send a file via Bluetooth-they still can't :D ), or things that were already there if you jailbroke your phone and call it a new feature??

Then when Apple comes up with a penta-band phone, they'll sue Google for already having one. They'll probably do the same with NFC.

That's like MB telling other automakers not to use ABS, Airbags, electronic keys, etc... 'cause they came up with them.

Maybe you need to invest in GOOG. Diversify my friend :D.

Definitely check it out. What made me an Apple-believer was during the "PC era" of booming Laptops. Windows products were utter disasters, virus watches, 3rd party "watchdogs" having to be installed, etc. The Macbook is bulletproof, and so lovely to use. If it weren't for Apple, I'll tell you one thing from firsthand experience, artists couldn't create like they have. Musicians will only touch Apple, and DJ's will only spin using Apple hardware, for good reason. The demise of the Macbook (if it ever does come) won't hurt Apple the business at all (if they drop it it's only because it will have been dead weight for them), but it'll impact the artist community big time.

Hehe. Your article doesn't inspire much confidence in Google's prospects. :D

It really goes deeper than the multitude of individual patents that Apple LEGALLY attained and that Google HAS copied/stolen/whatever. Imagine if you have a trusted board , you spill your secrets that will literally change the world, one of the board members leaves, and releases the exact same thing.... when his company initially didn't even compete with yours in the first place (now he does). You protect your innovations and all of a sudden, headlines naturally reflect that, and you have a bunch of sheep who don't know what's what aside from big grabbing "ooh/ahh" media headlines, or acting in their own selfish interests (cheaper products that emulate your winning formula = good for their options), using it as a way to slander you.

Fact is, this isn't about "who does it better", or Apple's "way to shut out the competition", this is Apple protecting these MARKETS, they don't want to see it get diluted to crap, where nobody makes money, therefore can't do it well. Also, they don't want to be the R&D for the world, which Google and Samsung have used them as. It's not just, therefore their allegations are completely with merit and it's insane that people can actually use that against them.

I actually have invested in GOOG stock, but it's really been a dud. I sold it last year and lost a bit. A friend of mine has owned it for several years, and he says it's his most annoying stock in his portfolio. AAPL has made him richer than his wildest dreams, and it still a growth stock (Google is not, it can't even catch up to its 2011 peak yet, not to mention its all time peak happened years and years ago).

Talking stocks, to break down each:

Both trade for let's say $600 (AAPL much cheaper now on the dips as misguided analyst projections have brought it down after strong earnings results considering the product pipeline coming soon which consumers are waiting cash in hand for).

AAPL's P/E is only a 12! (LESS than the market average! That's how undervalued AAPL is), it makes SO much cash and *profits* that its forward P/E looking into next year is less than 9 at these levels.... if you back out their ENORMOUS cash, it's even less. Apple has over 20% of their share price in pure cash and investments.... talk about an insurance policy.

Google's P/E is around 18 right now, so you're paying MORE for GOOG than for AAPL, while AAPL makes a TON more money, and is growing MUCH more. Not to mention, Apple has $120 Billion in CASH in the bank, which makes Google's own strong cash position look meager in comparison.

Apple has a VERY generous Dividend coming up for us ($2.65 a share), while Google has NONE. Google's shady management want to BREAK UP their stock so that they can keep the most voting rights, and pretty much leave the rest for "Class B Shares".

Apple's much more focues business model is much stronger, you have hardware, software, etc. that leaves a LOT of room for growth and new markets. Google has its seeds everywhere, and their success rate for generating revenue on a % basis from these "seeds" is dismal (lots of failed avenues which are afforded due to their successful core business). Therefore, Apple's brand-cachet is supreme, while Google's is more of a mess. You have retail stores, you have a focused identity. Also, you have the INVENTOR of the modern ecosystem of which Google vehemently tries to emulate, and nobody does ecosystems as well as Apple does. Let's not forget, Google haven't figured out a way to make profits from Android, aside from the hope that people will buy stuff from Google's store. The real winner of Android is the hardware manufacturers, currently Samsung mostly. AAPL has IOS AND hardware. Imagine if Apple licensed IOS to others like Google does its own worthless (literally speaking, it's worth nothing as they don't get paid for it) Android? Apple could charge a premium and you know everyone will gobble it up.

Finally, you have actual stock performance. Apple's stock, though grossly undervalued, is on a constant rise as it has no choice but to follow the companies constant rise. If the company's growth levels off, then you have a solid Dividend and NO DEBT, fundamentals one can only dream of.

Google is just a more uncertain stock with lagging performance (it's down year to date, AAPL is up about 50% WITH the company performance to more than back it up) and continuing P/E compression that the companies performance can't outweigh (unlike Apple's which can).

And this advice, is free of charge for you my friend. :D

In 4 months of AAPL stock ownership (on recent purchased shares) I made 50% of my investment WITH company fundamentals AND a still undervalued stock behind me. Google will never do that. AAPL WILL get to $1,000+ a share, unless the company stumbles big time, the question is simply "when".

Our fund has made a killing on AAPL, and we'd have no problems adding to it as we see it going sideways until iPhone 5 opening day sales are published (after which, look to see shares with a 7 handle).

Good, wise investing. I never understand the human necessity to add emotions and complexity in a brilliant fundamental story that's spelled out on the walls for you on AAPL. People haven't made the "SAFEST" (i.e NOT purely a gamble, i.e purely logical fundamental investment: High growth, low P/E, no debt, enormous cash, and now nice Dividend) amounts of investment return of our time for no good reason. LONG AAPL. Good time to buy on the dips now before the next run up.

Get a load of this shadiness. Of course anti-Apple's who troll comment sections and such will dismiss it and find reason to ridicule Apple for this, right? ;)

Apple Jury to Learn of Samsung Document Destruction

By Joel Rosenblatt on July 25, 2012
Go
Apple Inc. (AAPL) (AAPL)persuaded a federal judge to let jurors hear about document destruction by Samsung Electronics Co. (005930) in a patent trial scheduled to begin July 30 in San Jose, California.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul S. Grewal in San Jose today agreed with Apple that jurors should be told they can draw an “adverse inference” from Samsung’s failure to avoid auto- deleting e-mail Apple later sought as evidence. The “rolling basis” Samsung used for deletions resulted in a similar ruling against the company seven years ago, he said.
“Rather than building itself an off-switch -- and using it -- in future litigation such as this one, Samsung appears to have adopted the alternative approach of ‘mend it don’t end it,” Grewal wrote. “Samsung’s mend, especially during the critical seven months after a reasonable party in the same circumstances would have reasonably foreseen this suit, fell short of what it needed to do.”
Apple, based in Cupertino, California, and Suwon, South Korea-based Samsung, the world’s two biggest makers of high-end mobile phones, accuse each other of copying designs and technology for mobile devices. The companies are fighting patent battles on four continents to retain their dominance in the $219 billion global smartphone market.
Grewal’s proposed instructions for the jury begin by saying, “Samsung has failed to prevent the destruction of relevant evidence for Apple’s use in this litigation.” It adds that Apple has proved that “the lost evidence was favorable to Apple.”
The instructions concluded by saying that jurors must determine for themselves whether to make the evidence destruction a factor in their verdict.
“You may choose to find it determinative, somewhat determinative, or not at all determinative in reaching your verdict,” according to the instructions.
The case is Apple Inc. v. Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., 11- cv-1846, U.S. District Court, Northern District of California (San Jose).

Excerpt from another article:

Also on July 25, 2012, a U.S. magistrate in San Jose, California, ruled that Samsung wrongly let employees delete emails that could have helped Apple pursue its $2.53 billion lawsuit over disputed patents. The magistrate, Judge Paul Grewal, also said that a jury may hold this matter against the South Korean company. A trial is scheduled to start in the San Jose federal court July 30, 2012.

Auch. This saga will keep intensifying and Apple could very well get their 2.5 billions.

Indeed. Funnily enough, $2.5B is like chump change to them. But $2.5B is still $2.5B, and as one of the company shareholders, I say get what's ours. :D

It's just unfortunate that these litigations generate negative PR. Unfortunately the mass public doesn't seem to know what "Intellectual Property" means and that even if it affects their selfish consumer choices, it's law and justified for someone to protect it.

Yeah. The common mass thinks it only about design which isn't the case. There's more to the ordeal than just physical attributes of the gadgets. There are software patents which have been violated. Even Microsoft have successfully taken Anroid manufacturers to court and now receive royalties from HTC, Motorola and Samsung.

Google are evil. They developed an open source OS which they are offering for free and its the manufacturers taking the hit for selling "stolen goods", which is what Android is since its quite a mash of software technologies borrowed from a steam of different companies.

Fully agreed. I have no respect for Google. You don't get sued from every big tech company, and privacy acts, etc. and be dismissed from that "corporate evil empire" status. Samsung VS Apple is a tougher story as both are taking bits and pieces from each other, however Apple has many more patent violation suits against Samsung than vice versa, and fact of the matter is, Samsung IS the Samsung (in computing tech) that they are today SOLELY because of Apple. Apple opened the door, showed everybody how to do it, and Samsung followed suit to compete with Apple in all those now very growing and very lucrative marketplaces.

You can tell that Tim Cook isn't the type who is willing to die to crush those who he feels wronged him. He's publicly stated that he wants to move away from the Patent trials, and has tried to have "peace offerings" with Samsung. Obviously, none of it played out and here we are. If I were Apple, I'd like to move past this crap too, but what are they to do? Let others exploit what they started? They have to defend it vigorously.

Ah, after all that, I see this to earn some brownie points for Google. In reality, this just shows how blatant and careless Samsung were, considering even the almighty copycatting GOOGLE had to tell them to tone it down a notch.

Google Explicitly Warned Samsung It Was Ripping Off The iPad, Apple Claims

Posted on July 26, 2012

Apple says that Samsung was repeatedly warned by third parties that some of its devices looked too similar to the iPad, including by Google.
Those claims come from an un-redacted version of Apple’s trial brief for the ongoing patent dispute between the two companies.
In the brief, which was uncovered by AllThingsD, there are documents which claim that back in 2010, Google told Samsung its Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Tab 10.1 were “too similar” to the iPad. Google then asked Samsung for “distinguishable design vis-a-vis the iPad for the [Galaxy Tab 10.1].”
Apple hopes these documents will show that Samsung knowingly copied its products, but as AllThingsD points out, context is everything here.

That's true for me to,I first got Pro Tools back in 98,and have been Apple ever since.

That's it then. Quite expected. However I'm dissapointed about iOS 6. No major overhaul of the OS especially the iPad which is running a UI that's clearly designed for cellphones and not tablets. So much of the screen realestate could be better utilized.
