GLC [Spyshots] Spy Photos 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLC (AKA GLK)

The Mercedes-Benz GLC is a compact luxury crossover SUV introduced in 2015 for the 2016 model year that replaced the GLK-Class. According to Mercedes-Benz, it is the SUV equivalent to the C-Class.
Interesting. I always thought that a strong selling point for the GLK was its squared off Jeep-ish stance. A little mini G class. The replacement appears to be nothing more than a jacked up C estate

The mini G-wagen will be returning under a different name...

From a sales perspective, I find this a much better look. The boxy look on the GLK was poorly executed with too many Awkward lines. Don't do boxy with a steep front dropping accent crease. Plus, it was chopped off in the rear and shorter in over length than a C-class, which made no sense, since people who buy SUVs put a priority on space. US buyers love the cross over look.

The fact is that MB has been missing market share, and this should reach a broader spectrum.

Damn, now that is more like it. Looks great there. The problem is the long wheelbase. I guess we're going to see this soon.

It looked good in that video, and now it looks like a stretched Honda CRV or something. What a terrible thing to do us while we wait for this car to be shown officially.

Something that makes that look like anything but a Mercedes, but I haven't given up hope on the design.

Well they had to make space for the baby g-wagen somehow, as I said earlier in this thread.

Do we know that for a fact or is that just speculation? Even if true you can still make a small SUV look like a SUV without getting in the way of or aping the smaller G-wagen design. That is really no excuse IMO.

It's not an excuse as much as following the course as set by the naming alignment. Mercedes basically told you this was happening when they realigned the names. The GLC is now a C-class variant and is leaving the blocky styling to the G range.

That being said, I did just comb over all the sources and they all report that the smaller G won't be here until the second iteration of MFA, which is like 2018-2019. We got a while. Atleast people won't complain the GLC looks like a Subaru Forester like they did with the GLK? :D

Well MB burnt their fingers with that ugly boxy looking GLK once and I am pretty sure they don't want to do it again. Times have changed Marcus people buying for SUV's these days are looking for the space and high riding option they are provide not the rugged boxy looks just look at the segment leaders Q3, X3, Macan or Evoque. I think MB has an absolute winner in their hands with the GLC, it looks sleek and well proportionate from every angle.

The GLK was certainly not mainstream in it's styling. In fact the edginess of it was probably a bit overdone. It seems like the GLC has been styled for mass consumption, much like the Audi Q5. As long as it's nicely proportioned it should be fine, because as with the Q5, in the right trim it should look gorgeous.
