The Maybach subbrand may evolve further? :)

Q: How can you develop Maybach?

A: Maybach is our luxury subbrand, but we are just at the beginning of its relaunch. Its success makes us very confident to evolve it further. But we need time.

I personally believe the U Class, Maybach or whatever they name it will be the right direction for MB if well executed from design and quality. MB really need a product that on top and do not share very much of the same design language with their rest of the product line. The customers will feel the exclusivity. Let's see what will happen.

That's most likely a rendering from the upcoming U class which is supposed to be the uber luxury model above the S class to be on par with the Ghost and Bentley FS. I was reading on their website that the next S class is going to be made to be on par with the 7 series and A8 meaning that they possibly may cut corners to make it cheaper and reserve the lavish aspects for the U class.

We really need to be careful on passing around information/design proposals from those who are not even Mercedes employees as facts. Your posts reads as if the U-class was actually upcoming and in the product plans, which is most certainly isn't. There's no way we're going to see a U-class in the midst of the Maybach sub-brand relaunch. Further, there's absolutely no way they're going to sacrifice the S-class' current elite product positioning given the indisputable success of the W222.

Nothing official from MB yet. The U-Class was a 2014 concept/design proposal by Scott Wu Kaiser, a transportation design student at California's Art Center College of Design.

"Mercedes-Benz will need to secure their dominant position in the full-size luxury segment while entering the higher priced market," says Kaiser. "In order to achieve this goal, the next generation S-Class will be designed and priced to directly compete with the Audi A8 and BMW 7-Series. A new class of vehicle called the U-Class will enter into the higher-end market. The letter 'U' comes from the German word 'üppig', which means 'sumptuous' and 'lavish'", he explains.

LMFAO. Horrible and kiddie. Not to mention the name. U boat. WTF.

Who's website?

I doubt MB is going to compromise the S-class for the sake of a U-class. If the U-class does eventuate, it won't be at the expense of progressing the S.

I don't think is necessary considering theres not really a need for the U class given that we have the Maybach S600

Agreed, but we don't know what these people might do so pardon me for trying to enlighten the group with interesting information, hell they could have a H class in its product plans for all we know

Where do these pictures come from? Could this be the facelift without any camouflage? I like the lights.

Personal wishlist for the mopf/FL W222;
Make the following features standard on the S350d:
Metallic paint, leather seats, seat memory, ambient lighting and alarmsystem. If BMW can make this standard on all 7er models, why not Benz as well?

^ Some of those might be included in a Business Paket, similar to the one offered for the new E-Class right now. Also, here's a list with some changes in standard equipment, which just became available earlier this month, incl higher speed connect.me service. :)

^Thanks for the info, Wolfgang. Often ordered extra's (SA) in a Business Paket however, is not the same as standard equipement. But if we can save a few Euros with the Business Paket, it's a step in the right direction :)

What market are you talking about Mick? Isn't most of that standard here in Holland?? Surely metallic paint and leather seats are standard?

I'm talking Dutch and German market W222 (=SWB) 6 cylinder S-Klasse. All I mentioned isn't standard on S300h/S350d/S400h/S400 4Matic. Mentioned features are standard though on 8 cylinder S-Klasse. My point was, that those options are ordered by anyone who buys a S-Klasse, so make it standard. By making it standard equipement, Mercedes-Benz can make it also less expensive, which benefits the customer. And when I see, the 7er comes with all this as standard equipement, I once and while feel a bit "sick", if you know what I mean.

^ In the end an MB is always more expensive, compared to a Bimmer. This has always been the case.

MB > BMW > Audi

It's the price you pay for your desire of the three pointed star.

BTW, never in my life has I seen an S class without leather seats.
