WOW!!

This is the first small SUV that has nice proportions. Compare this to the shoe-ish X1 or the egg-ish Q3.

Well done MB.

Mercedes' BIG, BIG problem with the GLA will not be the as you say now tired looking X1, Q3 and so on outside competition, but cannibalising massively sales of its still good in itself A-Class. Now we know why Mercedes will price the GLA a good few thousand euros above the A-Class, otherwise the A-Class could be an endangered species overnight.

Killer!!Killer!!! Killer!!!! Merc got it perfectly right this time with the MFA platform. The perfect crossover!!!!
BULLSEYE!

Actually looks pretty good. Front grill looks to be a little slanted... Would have preferred more upright. Still wish the interior was different...

That looks really good. Come facelift time just specify some better trim pieces around the lower dash and fix that screen so it doesn't looks so tacked on ( on all the FWD vehicles) an they have an even bigger winner. As this stands though I'd take this over the Q3 and X1. Great job MB.

People seem to forget that the X1 is actually a 3-Series Crossover while this is based on the A-Class and the Q3 on the A3.

^
So? 1 Series is also based on shortened 3 Series platform, and its direct competitor to the A Class. Same goes for the X1.

Of course, let's not forget what will the UKL platform bring ;)

Talk about UKL when it's here.
The X1 is based on the E91 and unlike the 1-Series isn't shortened(tho there are differences of course)
It's a real 3-Series Crossover which can be considered only a class above... only the price keeps it in this class.

In your dreams.

I used to adore MB too when I was your age :)

Maybe you should start a diary/personal blog.

My question still stands (and You either ignored it, or don't want to respond to it): So what if X1 is based on E91? That doesn't make it a car from the class above. Consider this: if the 5 Series is made on a 7 Series platform, is 5 Series class above the E Class? Or, since 7 shares its platform with 5 series, is an S Class above 7 Series?

X1 and GLA are in the same segment, have pretty much similar dimensions, price... I don't really see why would it be considered from class above, especially since there already is "3 Series Crossover", called the X3 (which, to be fair, is somewhere between the SUV and Crossover).

Hmmm..
Ok I'm gonna have to wait until the pictures of the standard package come out, because I'm not feeling the AMG Package at all.
It doesn't seem to have enough ground clearance which is a problem that almost all cars in this segment have, but I guess Mercedes' attempt to make it extra sporty ended up making the car look more heavy that it supposed to appear. There is something wrong about the proportions of the front. The grill seems to be too low for such a car and the angle of the lights and their incilnation towards the grill, give the impression of a melting front - a problem that exists in a far less severe manner in the new S-class. Less severe because of the position of the grill. The AMG package is too "car-like" rather than "SUV-like" which leads to making it look like a heavier A-class with some ground clearance, but not enough for it to be called an SUV. The standard package might have something to save the proportions. The brown car with the open doors already indicates a better looking rear.

As for today, this is the best looking offer in the segment. Next up: the new VW Tiguan.
