GLA [Spyshots] Mercedes-Benz GLA

The Mercedes-Benz GLA is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Mercedes-Benz over two generations. It is essentially the SUV equivalent of the A-Class, and the smallest SUV marketed by the brand.

GLA, GLK, ML, GL, G All will remain in the lineup. The GLA is smaller than the GLK and will be priced under it.

Thanks, Merc1. I guess the GLA to GLK is like the CLA to the C. So who would be the GLA competitors ? BMW X1 and Audi Q3?

Yep and Yes.

I just can't wait to see the sales numbers when the CLA, FL E, S and GLA are all on sale at the same time. In the U.S. MB is going to print money IMO.

Totally agree with you. I like to add this, as long as MB makes the diesel option more affordable ( no more than $1K over the comparable gasoline engines) for the line up, they surely will make lots of money.

They'll need it. The last article I read suggested that their profit margins had taken a hammering with the end of the S-class, the FL E changeover and the fact that they make less on the A then they do on other cars.

Yeah I'm sure all these launches are going to cost them also, but this time next year they should be raking it in. Then again the C-Class launches next year so there will be some drag there too, and then the E a couple years later. I can't imagine what it must be like to work at a car company with so many models to keep up to date. Once all the totally new models arrive, there is a huge round of facelifts to do: GL, SL, SLK, ML, then a new GLK, the X6 competitor, and then on and on. NO REST for the engineering teams.

Looks like the GLA..

The car looks really great, but am I the only one who doesn't really like the rear end ?
IMO, car companies are having trouble designing the rear end of their cars, and this is no exception . It doesn even look kind of Audi-ish :(

almost there:

Useless looking ground clearance.

it's a crossover, 'CUV', Martin. There's not much use for 8" plus ground clearance in shopping malls.

It's going to surpass even the big sales success of the A-Class. Europe('s women) can't get enough of compact, affordable faux 4x4s, like the Opel Mokka and Nissan Qashqai, right now.

Wait for the 2015 GLK if you really want a compact-ish SUV, or give the new trail-rated Jeep Cherokee a look.

Thanks - I get that - was just remarking on the obvious; to now the GL moniker has stood for some measure of robustness and clearly the GLA represents a departure from this.

2015 GLK in RHD can't come soon enough for my family. If the present GLK was available in RHD in SA then I'd have had one already. Maybe the wife will like the GLA, but we still need a proper lifestyle vehicle for living life the beautiful, SA way...
