Isn't it time for a concept now?

yep:

this is going to scare the bejesus out of the X1, Q3 and the Range Rover Joque.

Well, this seems to be a bullseye of bullseyes, with even the most obvious paid shills and trolls on notorious anti-German sites like Autoblog struggling to disparage it with any vestige of credibility.

So, I agree, can we make sure Mercedes puts this into production as close as-is. Could Wolfgang or someone near to/in Daimler plead with Dr Zetsche to not mess this one up? Oh, and make sure to tool up Rastatt/Kecskemet for 200,000+ units annual production from the get-go.

Why can't you just post an opinion about a car without such a vitriolic attack on several people and organisations? You really are one bitter person. Welcome to my ignore list.

I am lowering my expectation here
AUTOCAR's comment on GLA
"There are rumours that the production version of the GLA won’t be quite so dramatic to look at as this concept, which would be a great shame. Sure, the concept’'s overt styling may jar with some, but here again is a new Mercedes that dares to challenge convention and do everything but play safe. Inevitably that means it won'’t thrill everyone,– but at least it will thrill some."

- it wouldn't take Sherlock Holmes or Autocar's renowned journalistic skills to know that. We already know the frameless doors, door mirrors, probably single piece tailights will fall away, but that still leaves the 'rightness' of the overall design.

Autocar's downplaying of the production GLA might just be to do with the enormous threat it poses to their pet Evoque, and they wouldn't want customers to be already holding back, waiting for the GLA in the autumn.

The major threat of the GLA is underlined by even Autoblog putting it as their no.1 pick of the Shanghai show - again, another no sh*t, sherlock!, moment:

Interestingly, it was Robert Lesnik who designed this car, not Mark Fetherston (the designer of the A Class). Does anyone know what project is Fetherston currently working on?

Mr Merc

He was mentioned in the FL of the E Class W212, and most notably - the S Class W222.

I thought he was in charge of larger, more traditional Mercs, that's the reason why I was surprised to hear his name.

I'm sorry that this is off-topic, but that likely isn't true and has yet to be factually proven. Where did you see(other than GCF) that Lesnik is in fact the designer of the W222? We need concrete proof of that, as it's glaringly off how the exterior designer of the R172 SLK, Fan Zhang, is seen with MB Design Chief Gorden Wagener guiding work on a near-finished W222 1:4 clay model, in a photo released on April 27, 2009.

The final car is nearly identical to the first photo, save for a few details. I've only heard it here on this site that Lesnik designed it, and nowhere else. If he did, it would not be Fan Zhang directing the sculpting of a clay model for a car he didn't design. Only Wagener and Lesnik would be there and Lesnik is nowhere in sight. Unless they later collaborated, it would not be Lesnik responsible for it. The CLA and GLA are what he certainly did work on in 2010, followed by the W212.5 in 2011. There's a chance I'm wrong, by the larger 1:2 scale model behind Wagener.

Hmmm... I'm not sure, but I think I've seen somewhere on GCF a link towards an article that stated just that - that Lesnik is the lead exterior designer of the W222. I'm not sure if there was even video included, with a small interview with Lesnik.

Ofc, I might be terribly wrong.
