Is there a possiblity that Mercedes could pull a Nissan Qashqai by offering a FWD option for the entry level engine option?

Looks interesting in the above side profile -- long hood -- headroom -- muscular flanks.

CLS like high rearview position -- the "boat" look.

This car´s profile is gonna be such a huge LOL when you see the door handles running upwards and the shoulder line downwards.

Most of the economy cars are following this line. The new Ford Escape is a jacked up Focus. The new Mazda small SUV is a jacked up 3.
But this is troubling. Obviously still very disquised, but looks like an Asian mish mash.

The body cladding seems to be over-exaggerrating the lines but the overall profile seems fine for a car that's going to go head-to-head with something like the BMW X1.

The rear actually reminds me of a Nissan Juke, the way the shoulder is integrated with the tail lamps.

Autozeitung mentions several SUVs, not only the GLA City-SUV shown above, but also a GLC and possibly also a smaller one below them. Pssst. Time will tell. :)

We’ve already seen no less than three models based on the Mercedes-Benz MFA platform and if you think the automaker is finished developing variants from the chassis, think again. Shown in the following photos is the newest MFA family member, a compact9bf64441ee30daae83cc5df196f9abbc.webp crossover expected to be called the GLA. The BMW X1 and Audi Q3 are just a couple expected competitors once it hits the market.

The tester is debadged and covered up, but a number of Benz styling cues are visible including its door handles, two-bar front grille, and headlights that mimic the A-Class. Unlike the A-Class hatch, this test mule has a slightly higher ride height and a sharply angled rear hatch, both of which give it a distinct crossover0f19c9f479bdc177b6a3970c2d2abf44.webp appearance.

Earlier this year Mercedes-Benz confirmed it would produce the GLA at its Rastatt, Germany plant, where the new A-Class is currently being built. Details haven’t been released, but it should share the same front-drive powertrain options as the A and B-Class, as well as the CLA sedan unveiled at the 2012 Beijing auto show. The CLA is expected to arrive in the U.S. with a 2.0-liter turbocharged gas I-4 mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. We expect all-wheel drive0f19c9f479bdc177b6a3970c2d2abf44.webp will be optional and wouldn’t be surprised if AMG got their hands on this model as well.

Should Mercedes decide to bring the GLA to our shores, expect to see it here sometime in 2014 or 2015. For now, the only MFA-based model confirmed for the U.S. market is the CLA sedan, which is scheduled to arrive next summer or fall. No word if we’ll see the A-Class in the U.S., but current rumors speculate that the B-Class could arrive here as an electric vehicle in 2014.

REPORT: Mercedes-Benz supposedly readying two very different compact SUVs - the GLA and the GLG

This news is taken out from the speculations' bin and was released on the market by the German automotive magazine Autobild, that allegedly has information Mercedes-Benz will offer two compact SUVs developed on the MFA platform. The first to come out is the GLA-Class, arriving in 2014, and the latter one is the GLG, which looks to be a tribute to the G-Class in terms of styling.

Oh Boy! With that line on the side Merc1 and K-A will have to approve it before it goes into production. I guess that means it will be a 2015 model.
