Hmmm, I don´t know what to think, if I´m going to like it or rather dislike it.

They've violated the famous Mercedes grill with all those finicky grill-vents in the bumper (n)

The front - under the grill - looks like a bit complicated to me in these pics. I hope that the end product will be clear out. It'll near to the A class front bumper I think.

Same. Let's wait until the camo comes of all. The car is clearly in the last stage of FEP now....
But so far, I tremendously dislike the 'smilie face' bumper. And it looks so much like an oversized C class in the pics. So ordinary looking.

With the latest spy pics I think thi is it:

I hate to say it, maybe Mercedes should source its automatic transmissions from ZF, at least those for longitudinal application (i.e. for all V6, V8, and V12 engined rear-wheel driven models). But pride (and to lesser degree necessity) and union issues get in the way. But there are hopes that the Mercedes 9-speeder with an integrated start-stop and hybrid will be better than anything ZF has to offer.

May be, bt ZF isn't sitting and doing nothing in the meantime.
The new 7er will get a brand new ZF 9 speed as well. Let's see how it will perform against MBs new gearbox...

this may seem weird but i would actually want to drive one of the prototypes with the cladding and everything just to toy around, and this may be the last time we see the S class in FEP b/c last year the ML pictures were released around the same time as this year, i cant remember which autoshow its big debut was at

Lol you're kidding right KA. If ZF continually and consistently makes better transmissions than Benz, then ofcourse they should adopt ZF.

I hope the 9G sets a new benchmark in refinement.

Yeah, but everybody has a ZF. The only way to get a 7G is by having a Merc. I'm not saying this means I'd rather have a 7G, but in a day where cars are all getting closer to being the same thing as each other with different badges and sheetmetals, I value "distinction".

Believe me, I've had enough 7G cars to know how quirky and unresolved the transmission is. It seems every year, it gets better. My '06 E had a disaster of a 7G, had to take it in constantly as it was a nightmare. My 2010/2011 7G's have been mostly flawless with a hiccup here or there.

Hmm. The front grille looks like the most bland shape I've seen from an M-B in some time. It looks like they just made it HUGE, but gave it a very bland shape. No aggressive "V" like the E-Class, no strong angles or contours, etc. Very sophisticated, however, which is obviously done on purpose. Not saying this is good or bad, though I prefer the more juvenile aggressive-angularity of the W212 and facelift W221 (mean like a classic Merc). Like I've said before, this one reminds me more of the W220's grille, just supersized.

a recent blurb mentioning the nine-speed automatic ;)

It’s public knowledge that Mercedes is working on and testing a nine-speed automatic transmission. When asked when we might see it, Heil declined to comment but assured us that they’re hard at work on the technology. So why nine gears? “We see a ratio with nine speeds that is absolutely efficient,” says Heil. He continues to say that if they had seen any kind of advantage adding more gears, they would have. Still, he laughs that marketing could win out in the end. When competitors come out with ten- or eleven-speed gearboxes, Mercedes-Benz may have to play along and add more gears.

so it looks like the new S and facelifted E Class are adopting the Concept Fascination lower girl treatments.

I just noticed that the black column between the two screens in first interior spy pic of the W222 had two buttons the first is for the sun shade the second for the overhead lighting, i wonder how are you going to be able to operate chose of a glass shield is over them, then again it could just be an illumination column that light up
