For Mercedes to do a completely new design, the platform code would change significantly. The last time the S-Class was completely redesigned was when it went from the W140 to the W220, think V1.4.0 to 2.2.0. When the W221 followed, it was obvious it wasn't that much of a difference from the W220, it only went up a notch, hence the V2.2.1. Same thing this time around with the W222.

The A-Class went the same way. W168 to W169 and now a major overhaul with a W176.

I'm loving that front. I wonder if those are the "torch-like" headlights that were rumored a while back. And like I suspected, no more LED fog lights.

Well, does that mean the M-Class(W166) still has some underpinnings from 1996 when the W163 ended development? As well as the rest of the range(W205[2014]-W202[1993], W212[2009]-W210[1995])?

Hmm not sure SLS.. new model, yes, but coming from Dodge Viper DNA..

No it wasn't based on a Viper. It started out as that car's replacement. Clearly there is none of that cheapo DNA in the SLS.

Of course, and now that Viper is its own brand they are also claiming the upcoming 5th generation is 'not based on anything else' :)... but you can clearly see the Viper DNA just by squinting ;)

What's also ironic is that the SLS is perhaps the best looking Mercedes currently in production :cautious::whistle:
Sorry for the OT post.

I have the same theory, no matter what MB says. Its a Viper DNA. the extra long hod hot rod kind of structure isn't a coincidence.

It's not, no matter what you think :)
They changed the car to an MB so early on, it's impossible to say or believe it's based on a never released Dodge/Viper.

And, completely off topic, but SLS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SL

Right. I agree, all this Viper talk is just nonsense.

you guys believe anything on the tv :p Anyway this has nothing to do with the new S. but people working at large companies hide millions of secrets about taking shortcuts and cost cutting.
On the other hand theres not much evidence to support the theory of the SLS being based on a Viper...

Those aren't LED's at the bottom of the bumper. Just two chrome strips I believe. MB is shifting to having LEDs built into headlights.

I always wonder how do the people who create these spot on renders months before the car is even in its FEP know how the design is going to look, that silver render of the W222 looks pretty accurate, i wonder if Mercedes show them a rough draft of the design and they take it from there.
