So that makes 4? What will number 5 and 6 be then? Shooting brake and Landaulet?

Ah, that set off a lightbulb in my head :D I assume he means a "convertible" version of each of those. The "convertible" S-class will probably be (like you said) a landaulet.

If Mercedes makes a landaulet S-class I have a feeling every person who wants an ultra luxury sedan (from Mercedes, or BMW) will line up for one. Who wouldn't?

ZETSCHE: For the new S-Class generation from 2013, we therefore develop six models instead of three.

FAZ: Until now you have the normal S-Class, a long version and a coupe. I guess there will be a convertible.

ZETSCHE: You are welcome to speculate. Anyway, we are confident to increase sales significantly. So far, S-class annual sales are in the order of up to 80,000, and the increase will be in the five-figure range.

Im Gespräch: Daimler-Chef Dieter Zetsche:

:t-cheers:

I don't get the necessity for Zetsche to constantly cite Sales goals. This doesn't talk up the cars or please enthusiasts or everyday shoppers much at all (actually, historically, when a company focuses on Sales and profits only, the product itself starts to regress).

He should save that for the Shareholders meetings and notes. For the general public, I wish he'd just focus on how amazing and out-of-reach by other car companies new Benzes will be, Sales will just follow that. It's unbecoming these public Sales-war goals are, not to mention, how bad it would look if they didn't meet or exceed them.

^
Mind you, apart from the fact that there are just those customers or brand specific enthusiast that need that typical reassurance that their brand will be the best seller-in-class. The more Zetsche cite Sales goals the better he looks in the position he has to fulfill. Politics outside any listed companies boardroom is just as important as governmental politics.

The whole world and anything related to the automobile always awaits the next S-class arrival with baited breath, this time around the emphasis on sales in this segment is under the magnifying glass because you Americans are opting more and more for the entry level and downgrading to smaller cars:D

W222, W222 LWB and W222 XLWB would be the exact same car with a different wheelbase. I wouldn't even call that a different model.

Boooooring.

Klier is so right boys, practically it`s the same car. I think the 4 door coupe S class will be something really new and catchy.

Folks on Mercedes-Benz Passion eBlog speculate the 6th model might be a 'Super S-Class'? ;)

:t-cheers:

A super S class to go head on against the Phantom would be a sight to behold don't you think? I would say that it will be the S class XLWB to go again the Phantom/Mulsanne?

So the "new" S-Classes will be a Merc-rebadged Maybach rebadged Merc ? Sounds good to me !

Interesting point. I wonder how 'in the fold' the design of the new uber S-class models will be, given they may have originally been conceived as Maybachs. But I actually think the decision to kill Maybach was made some time back.

Big step forward in cabin design? sounds good!!!

That is a just a CLS based creation. Look at the actual car, even wrapped in garbage bags it doesn't look like that.

It`s obviously you guys that work at those renderings, forget the CLS headlights, and rearlights. S class will have a unique design.
