A7/S7/RS7 [Spyshots] 2018 Audi A7 (gen II)

The fanfare haralding Audis' new Marc Lichte-led design paradigm is quickly becoming reduced to nothing more than muzak.

Oh dear ! Recent spottings are leaving me patently undecided.

In this particular recent video, the new A7 is looking smoking hot !

Perhaps deceivingly appearing trim and sinewy. More Floyd Mayweather than Joshua Anthony. Low, well planted. I can only assume that these attributes will be further accentuated in S7 and RS7 guise.

Looking forward to the cars' official presentation.

Erlkönig Audi A7 (2018): Mehr Platz, weniger Gewicht, kein V8

I find it remarkable that the new A7/S7 looks (to me) far more attractive in "in motion videos" than in photographs.

Well, apparently LOWERING the rear end is the main point this time.

Well, I don´t know, these spy pics of the new A7 look good to me. If Audi has managed to raise the butt of the car and update the rear end, then bravo. But this render makes it look weird, if not bad directly. When a brand gets fixated with a certain design cue it can be really boring. It has happened with the connected lights to the kidneys with the BMWs and it seems we are headed the same way with Audi.

Love the sharp hip/running character line. This new A7 may as well become the best looking modern Audi.

As of now, I find even the new R8 to have underwhelming styling.

One thing that I've always appreciated regarding the A7 is that its' exterior design appears (in some aspects aft the B-pilars) to quote that of several Italian "supercars" of the late 1960s'/early 1970s'. The FIAT Dino coupe, Lamborghini Jarama and Espada, Maserati Indy are but a few examples.

No. The A8 is getting its World Premiere.

Several German automotive press sources have alluded to the "possibility" of the series II A7 being presented in Frankfurt. But a premiere in L.A. (beginning of December) also appears plausible. There have also been ramblings indicating "an A6 Concept" presentation in Frankfurt-a reason for this, quite frankly, eluding me.

Quite viable (and perhaps most likely) would be a "motor show independent" corporate event sometime in between the Frankfurt and L.A. shows. Not unlike the presentation of its' predecessor.

Audi Is Working on a 700-HP Hybrid RS7

Apparently, the next-gen RS7 will borrow its drivetrain from the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. We like the sound of that.

The most powerful Audi RS7 you can buy today is the 605-hp Performance model (pictured above). That's probably enough horsepower for a sedan, but apparently because we live in crazy times, Audi is working on a hybrid RS7 with 100 more horsepower. Evo reports that Audi is working on two drivetrain options for the next-gen RS7, a base model with 650 horsepower (!), and a 700-hp hybrid.
Audi's head of design, Marc Lichte, confirmed this information to Evo, adding that the next-generation RS7 will borrow its powertrain hardware from the Porsche Panamera Turbo. Porsche's newest, fastest sedan is powered by a new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that makes 550 hp in the Panamera Turbo, and 680 hp with hybrid assistance in the Turbo S E-Hybrid.

Previously, we reported that Audi plans to use this V8 and hybrid tech in the next-gen S8. The new A8 just launched with a 3.0-liter V6 and a 6.0-liter W12.

The next-generation A7, which Evo says rides on an all-new platform, will make its debut later this year, while the RS7 will go on sale late next year. Considering the current RS7 Performance is easily one of the quickest cars on sale, the next-gen models will be surely be mind-blowers.

New Audi RS7 to get 700bhp hybrid power

New RS7 Sportback to get an optional electric boost in the shape of the hybrid powertrain from the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-hybrid.
Audi’s forthcoming new RS7 Sportback will be offered in two states of tune when it goes on sale late in 2018, Marc Lichte, Head of Design, has confirmed to evo.

A conventional new RS7 will be powered by an all-new 4-litre, twin-turbo V8 producing 650bhp. A second, more powerful, hybrid model will be sold alongside it; it features the same electric motor set-up as that fitted to Porsche’s Panamera Turbo S E-hybrid. This hybrid-powered RS7 is expected to produce in the region of 700bhp.

Based on an all-new platform due for release later this year, the conventional RS7 will utilise the VW Group’s ubiquitous 4-litre, twin-turbo V8 as found in the Panamera Turbo and forthcoming Bentley Continental GT. Lichte tells us it will produce around 650bhp and nearly 600lb ft of torque. The engine will be mated to the latest eight-speed S-tronic gearbox, and drive will be channelled to all four wheels, in regular quattro fashion. Standstill to 60mph should take less than four seconds, and top speed is expected to be 190mph.

However, topping the RS7 line-up will be the first plug-in hybrid Audiperformance car, which employs the same technology found in the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-hybrid. Further development of the lithium-ion drive battery pack and electric motor power system will allow Audi to extract an extra 150bhp to add to the combustion engine’s output. It’s expected that the internal combustion engine’s output will be pegged back to 550bhp for the hybrid RS7, resulting in a total combined output of 700bhp.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
