Unconfirmed at 100%, but I found out that supposedly the premiere of the W223 was postponed to autumn 2020. The reason for software problems.

Yes, invites for the April premiere date have been reissued and EOL date for the W222 date has been pushed to early Q4. My source is at MB Manhattan (factory-owned).

The S-Coupe/cabrio is supposed to be in production for another year or 2; probably coinciding with market launch of the new SL.

The W222 is so accomplished there is no dire need to rush the W223. That said the market anticipation for the new model would surely have an impact on sales.

Lowkey I would’ve preferred if the W222 lived on a little longer with maybe one more minor refresh while they take time mastering a W223 that solely competes with The Bentleys and RRs. Kinda like what Lexus did with the LS

Lexus delayed the LS due to corporate indecision that included a misguided attempt to make the LS more sporty. This newest model has failed to make an impression on the market.

The S-class trying to move upmarket would be similarly misguided in my opinion. It’s perfectly positioned as is. Your average Rolls Royce owner doesn’t want an S-class instead, no matter how nice it is.

All facts, especially considering the amount of newer model LS’s I see on the road

I see 1-2 a week in a market that's supposed to be the LS' #2, Florida being first.

Lexus is really being mismanaged as @Serpens stated. They've completely lost identity by trying to strong arm themselves into a sporty brand; they are chasing customers that will never trade for Lexus'.

Toyota not willing to invest true money into the Lexus brand for new platforms, ICE/BEV powertrains, and a decent infotainment makes the future look bleak outside the RX and NX.

The GA-L platform was a new platform introduced with the LC and used on the LS, which uses a new 3.5L TT-V6. Also a new TT-V8 is coming up. All that said, I agree with everything else. They have dragged their collective feet on BEV. The electric UX looks like a crap-compromise and while they've were one of the brands to bring hybrid on the forefront, they've sat on their laurels. They seem to be more committed to fuel cells. Either way, yea, recent decisions by their managers have not done them any favors whatsoever. Shame, really, as they had so much potential as an alternative outside the German 3.

Bentley announced the retirement of Mulssane and Flying Spur will remain as their flagship sedan due to the low demand, which means only RR Phantom will remain in top of ultra luxury sedan category. So I have to say S-Class is rightly placed now with normal, AMG & Maybach variants doing good numbers and dominating it the market. More over Merc have been highly successful in Maybach avatar of S-Class

Remember that this is not 2002. A hefty percentage of private buyers pick up expensive Cayenne, Full fat Range Rovers and G-Class instead of an S-Class or even Ghost.

Yeah it’s going to be a looker. Interior is the thing we really have to see.

First time we see the AMG pack, but a little bit disappointed that the basic design of the AMG line front bumper has been the same for ages.
