Gotta say it's a tough pick between these two. Front end goes to the X3 with M Sport package for sure, just a little bolder and sharp looking. Side/rear end I definitely prefer the Q5, with the flatter beltline, but the X3's rear end is still pretty good too.
Both have a boring design considering this is 2024 design. I prefer the X3.

For me, everything: X3

I prefer the X3’s cleaner surfacing and monolithic design whilst the Audi’s creases and folds feel like a generation behind. I also prefer the X3’s front wheels being positioned further forward.

Honestly there is something that isn’t quite right with either for me. I’d rather have an X1… looks more cohesive design wise and has a very attractive interior…

Another perfectly fine alternative.

It would be hard for me to pick between the GLC and X3, as I owned and adored an X3 for 5 years, but I think the new interior design would kill it for me, even if ultimate build was better than the Mercedes. Oh there are also some absolutely infuriating ergonomic/UI issues on the new BMWs as well.

Having driven both the last X3 and X3LCI extensively and the new GLC, I would think both new generations would be perfectly adapted for their everyday purposes. One just feels like a BMW and the other a Benz. Who needs an Audi that is trying to be everything and now looks like the product of a thoroughly extensive design clinic process, that is trying to please everyone, but seems to excite no one.

Nah, the rear C pillar design and the weirdly sculpted sheet metal (stretched look) isn’t as pleasing as the last gen.

That said, none of these three are bad designs per se, but as elsewhere mentioned on this thread, the big three have to tread softly and not radicalize their dem designs of their best sellers… which unfortunately means they shot themselves in the foot and could only do so much to ‘refresh’ their near perfect offerings…

I agree. A tough choice. I appreciate the somewhat more "technical", more "modern" approach that BMW designers have taken. Personally, I think that cylindrical wheel arch openings and arch sculpturing could have benefitted the X3. But otherwise, it is very nice indeed. The Q5 is a bit more "conservatively elegant". Visually, the BMW is a bit more exciting.

The Q5 looks really good in those pics and in my opinion makes the X3 look very slab sided. I like the contours on the lower doors much more adventurous than the straight vertical cliff doors on the BMW. So for me a convincing win for the Audi in this comparison.

The cleaner surfacing and reduction of overly contoured sheetmetal is on trend now. Look at 12Cilindri vs 812 as an example.
I expect we'll see more of this approach from BMW with Neue Klasse.

New Q5 Sportback is revealed, I think it looks pretty good.

Its not a bad car, but looking from the back you really cant distinguish it from any E-Tron models, many people struggle even with the front though aside from the boring and unimaginative DRLs I think it looks good. I wonder why they make these customizable DRLs when all of them look lame, and have barely any difference…

Yeah I agree the customizable DRLs are a gimmick.

That said I think the rear lightbar is differentiable enough from the others?

It’s lost its subtle brutality that the B9/9.5 had. Will have to see one in person to really judge.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
