911 [Spy Shots] 2013 Porsche 911 GT3 first spy pictures

The Porsche 911 model series (pronounced Nine Eleven or in German: Neunelf) is a family of German two-door, high performance rear-engine sports cars, introduced in September 1964 by Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany.
So close, yet so far... 991 GT3 being tested in SF.

The fact that they are testing it in US, could probably means release is close by. I always read everywhere it will be in March next year at Geneva and it probably still is, but wonder if there is a chance it will be LA in Nov. I mean we have seen shit load of GT3 spy pics with literally no camo than we have of Cayman.

So a PDK GT3 is right on the horizon then. The spy shots sounded more like a single-clutch sequential box, though.

I don't think it is much of an effort to programme a PDK to sound and/or behave like a single clutch manumatic.

A PDK GT3... What's the world coming to?

Yea, I am hoping there is a manual version also, but I am also sort of torn about that - I am afraid it will end up being a step child.

At least from the fact that they are testing it on the hills of San Francisco indicates it is possibly not just a 991 PDK transplanted as such - I can't see any other purpose of testing the car their besides taxing the clutch. Funny related story - first time I moved to San Francisco fresh from school, I borrowed my brother in law's civic and readily fried it's clutch, hehe.

yeah Sunny. How bizzar

It has been long since I drove a stick, but a PDK GT3 is tempting. The fact that it will be priced much much higher than the current generation is a let down.

The end of the greatest automotive era.

Now everything is tuned towards efficiency, even hard-core, pure performance cars like the GT3.

It's nice to be efficient, but there has to be the freedom of choise as well. I can't find any N/A manual car that I could buy right now...

There will definitely be an optional 6 speeed or 7 speed manual for the GT3.

True. Porsche are not that stupid. However I wouldn't be surprised to see the Turbo coming with PDK only. Let's not freak out yet, we have yet to hear the specifications of the gearbox in the PDK. I doubt its stock PDK but instead a reworked tranny.

There have been lot of noise about how GT3 will be PDK only. And also of all the test cars spotted till now none have manual which also probably implies even if they offer a manual it might be an afterthought like in M5. So I won't absolutely rule out the possibility of next GT3 being PDK only.

Wait, till Google driverless car goes mainstream... I think driving will in not so distant future be relegated to being a recreational activity like horse riding.

Yeah, lol. But at least there is no redline in sight of 7000 rmp....

No, and what is more interesting is that the 7 is where 6 is on a normal 991 dial. So it probably redlines close to 9k and the dial probably goes to 10k.

There's got to be a manual, otherwise this may be the straw that broke the camel's back among Porsche purists. One can rationalize Panameras and Cayennes, but no chance of a manual in a track-focused car....that's just ripe for mutiny.

I think so too. It is way too risky for them to do such a thing. GT3 has the most loyal 911 following. People who traded in their 996 GT3 for 997 GT3 and many turbo S converts who ended up trading in their turbo S for GT3 etc. because of the purist nature of the car.

I have a suspicion that the spyshots with PDK is actually a turbo without the fender vents.

I seriously doubt that. There is the central exhausts which is GT3 signature. Aslo the dial above actually says GT3, not to mention the 7k+ redline. Also there is the sound which is unmistakably NA. PDK equipped GT3 is coming, better resign ourself to it. Only question is if there will aslo be a manual as an option. I hope so.

As for the PDK equipped GT3, I think Porsche is in a quandary, it has to respond to better and faster competition - R8, GTR on lower end and 458 and MP 4/12c on the upper end and they all use technological gizmos to devastating effect. I doubt Porsche can afford to get caught with it's pants down. Will people accept it? I don't know, but Ferrari managed it with 458.

well as long as the PDK is an option and there is a manual, that may quell some dissent.

I am no engineer, but can the PDK be fashioned into a single-clutch? I know there's mention of a single-clutch from Porsche's racer, but I'd imagine it'd be too pricey for general consumption, yes?
