5 Series will look much better imo. That EQ-esque front end looks like crap, the rest of the car looks flawless though.
I hardly doubt it.
The raised greenhouse and X1’s headlights are already waking my concern, and they will surelly mess with more details by their current standards.

I wouldn’t put much hope on both, but the E-Class already wins with its side profile.

This gen LCI 5 is one of the best ever. Better than an E39?? I would say so… just
The best looking of its segement maybe, or on pair with the A6, but the worst looking 5er and the most uninspiring looking as pre LCI and generic after with Skoda vibes.

Comparong it to the others it’s an insult for the very elegant looking G11 and timeless E60.

The E39 touches no1.

The E39 is a brilliant car, it perhaps one of the best BMW saloons ever. It was a massive leap over the E34 and a big nightmare for the Mercedes W210. The styling looks so elegant, and the size and proportions are perfect. It is the best looking of the 1990s saloons such as E46 and E38 and the interior is every bit as good as the 7-series with really amazing comfy seats.

All that, it is unanimous that it is "perfect" in every way, but what always caught my attention in its exterior design is how different it was and still is from the "traditional" philosophy of the brand, a practically invisible kink and a roof drop / C pillar so atypical, even so, it looks and feels like a BMW and that front so well achieved and eternal

Stylistically.. still much prefer the E34 and F10 tied in first for me! E39 is a solid 2nd though with the G30 LCI M Sport/F90 LCI being right there at 3rd.

Of course I meant the F10 not the G11, a little blooper.

Hm, there was an option with an illuminated star inside the grill - but only without distronic. So, the take-rate was surely below one percent. Even the Actros I've never seen with that gimmick, which in EU is only legal whilst still standing.
Totally I'm very sad, that obviously the very good history of having less emissions, less fuel consume, better comfort, better safety is going to be brutally discontinued with awful "newish" design, with less usable interaction (rubbish touch screens) and with less usable range.
For me everything is shouting out "stay away".

Gees why is everyone so negative, we havent even seen the uncovered front end of the car yet.

The E39 may be good looking, but they were notoriously unreliable, and technically probably one of the worst cars BMW have made. They had a lot of problems. I had one, so I know!

That is very contrary to the vox populi that mostly praises those same parameters added to everything else, but I have no doubt that maybe it turned out badly for you

Yup. Particularly the first units. My dad had one and it had all sort of problems. The worst one has a brakes issue that almost cause him a car crash.
