Suffice to say that this is a good looking automobile:

That color is something new, it looks like a retro color brought back.

The SL, if I am not mistaken is the only convertible in itself that does not derive from a coupe, nor does it have a counterpart coupe, among all the hundreds of models of all brands it is unique in that aspect, or I missed something .. ...
I woke up observer today

Well, it is a true roadster, like the MX-5

Possible, albeit here the R129 is in "Aqua Blue Metallic"(Color code 919), while the R232 mule was in "Hyperblau met."(Code 5 888).

Code 888 was btw used for "Beryllblau" in the past:

In general the R232 will receive a bit more bespoke colours(Compared to the other vehicles that come from the Bremen plant) and will be a bit less "Fifty shades of Grey".

This upcoming R232 SL, the C257 CLS, C/A238 E-Class coupe/cab and the W/S 206 C-Class are the "ICE era swansong" cars that I would simply have to own, were I to embark onto the path of collecting M-B ICE automobiles. Perhaps the upcoming CLE coupe/cab, should they actually come to fruition, would be candidates as well.
They'd be in fine company with my W113 "Pagoda" SL, W124 500E, R129 500SL, C215 500CL...and...and...and...
But ICE vehicles will most likely be taxed into obsolescence in 10-15 years time making them prohibitively expensive to own and drive.

I can appreciate that this could've been lost in the previous pages' back and forth, but the SL powerplants will be I6, V8, and V8 hybrid. I'm not sure what numbers will be assigned to the I6 motor but it'll probably be SL53.
I am glad the I6 is more or less confirmed (I say "more or less" because it's not officially in a PR from M-B).

Is the I4-hybrid is still going to be available or was that just unfounded rumor that was propagated?

The AMG crew from the PR press drives told the journalists there would be no I4 hybrid offered. They were only talking U.S. market so I can't confirm if that's the plan globally. I understand why the I4 rumor was spread originally as AMG leaders had been saying the I4 and V8 hybrids were the path forward as they were "real" AMG motors unlike the I6.

This was probably exacerbated by the C63 being offered as I4 hybrid only.

I was also wondering about global markets, especially markets where increasing engine displacement leads to higher penalties.

Totally agree that this is a point of interest- the I4 hybrid would definitely be advantageous in those situations. Convertibles aren't big sellers in some of those displacement sensitive markets (i.e. China) so perhaps we'll see the I4 hybrid show up in the AMG GT. This is pure conjecture, I have not seen anything to suggest this will be the case.

What a great era this was when these cars shared the showroom floor. The Benz DNA was so strong and true from top to bottom. They all felt, smelled, drove with the same arrogance and utter poise. Sigh…..

OFF TOPIC: But I respect and admire anyone that devotes time (and a large wallet) to keep a C215 alive. That's true love right there and she is worth every penny.
