Why not? When you have the weather you know that A/C,roof etc has to be thoroughly, thoroughly and did I mention thoroughly,has to be tested.

BMW can do it even worse, remember all the concepts of the i8, concepts of concept than another concept of the previous concept, and final few concepts without glass doors... and maybe another one just before unveilng so than they could start with the teasing of the real car. Took just 6 years...
All this for a car that is a fail and won't make it into the second generation

As many others have said before, THE i8 was hardly ever intended as a mass car. It is a vehicle at the very end of the range, belonging to an exclusive sub-brand developed specially for its task. It is not a 3 Series. Its purpose was to serve as a test bed and display car for several revolutionary technologies other constructors couldn't even think of. Its staged introduction was done as to gradually improve those futuristic technologies and make them road-suitable, as to finally deliver an outstanding car. Which it is. And it sells in in sufficiently satisfactory numbers to still justify its existence and not be a sales flop.

Gorgeous without being too watered down from the Concept. The front is perfect and although the rear is rather busy it's a good looking car overall.

It looks very sharp and streamlined. Contrary to my initial impression based on the spy photos, the new 8 Series looks rather imposing and mighty, not too say big.

It's not rocking my world, but the execution of the grille and headlights is better than I'd expected.... Think I actually prefer the look of the front end on this to the concepts!
