8 Series [Renders] 2020 BMW 8 series

The BMW 8 Series is a range of grand tourer coupes and convertibles produced by BMW. The 8 Series was introduced in 1990 under the E31 model code and was only available as a two-door coupé. The E31 was discontinued in 1999 due to poor sales. The model range was later reintroduced in 2018 with the second generation, G15 8 Series. It launched in coupé (G15), convertible (G14), and four-door Gran Coupé (G16) body styles, as the successor to the F06/F12/F13 6 Series lineup.

To be honest, I really liked the fins of the previous generations. Both from a functional perspective (as an elegant wind blocker etc.) but also in terms of styling, as the fins allowed for a very flat coupeish c-‚pillar‘ which is very uncommon in convertibles. This here looks more conservative, it sits tight and is much shorter. Reminds me of the current Aston Martin convertible proportions.

It's really the classic cabrio look I've known and loved since the E30/E36. And now finally it's coming back to Bimmers in the from of 8er cabrio, Z4 and next gen 4er cabrio. I am delighted.

Finally, an attractive cabriolet hood. The solution on last two 6ers, though useful - just didn’t look good.

I believe BMW 'did a Ferrari' here. BMW did it first, but like the California and Portofino, the E64 and F12 just used the same roof.... which was not cool from the beginning....

Bwahahahahaha - f#ck off Matski, you can't possibly be that funny. Would really like to have a beer with you one day.

Does this class as a date? ;

The mother of the test driver's girlfriend.

Tragic. RIP.

Tragic, yes. For the poor victim and her family.
But, as it seems based on the latest reports, also negligent. Which is not a new phenomenon.
Prototypes of that stage are involved in such serious accidents (I remember at least 5 fatal ones in recent years in Germany alone) far too often (particularly in relation to their absolute numbers). One reason might be the fact that test drivers are often (more or less) untrained and underpaid (mostly by suppliers not OEMs). So, the thrill of driving such exclusive exemplars becomes a kind of 'bonus' (and sometimes it is even used as the proverbial carrot during recruiting).
Sad.

Yes-the so-called Raserfälle that have frequently occupied German criminal courts. Perhaps the most publicized was an incident that occurred some 15 years ago involving a Mercedes-Benz test driver in an AMG C215 prototype. A young mother and her daughter lost their lives in the accident that resulted from an extremely high-speed, missle-like "tailgate" committed by the test driver. Very tragic.

So they did it with X7, the Z4 and now the with the 8, did the prototype tes drives become the new dogma ?

Rear seats look like torture - 90 degree angle and zero legroom. No surprise, everyone else does the same.
