4 Series [Renders] 2020 BMW 4 series

The BMW 4 Series is a range of compact executive cars manufactured by BMW since 2013. The 4 Series was created when BMW spun off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the 3 Series into a separate series.

that's a fact.

.. I mean ... technically, it's an opinion... not a fact.

Looks better than I expected, that bugs bunny grill certainly will grow on me, a bit like when Audi first launched their huge grills in mid 2000's, it took time to digest and one can say actually looks quite good now.

I really don't like the mesh in the grille itself, that's my biggest problem with it. Keen to see the lesser models, and the M models fully exposed.

Bug-eyed and buck toothed.

I dont know... Will reserve judgement until full reveal.

Edit: The rims look nice though

Maybe I’m just a BMW fan , but god damn they’ve d...
Done what again ? f#cked up you mean.

Now I’m all for bmw coming up with some new design ( mainly interior wise cause it’s so boring).
And I find the front interesting , more like car accident interesting. Atleast it triggers a reaction out of me.

but what the f#ck happened to the profile and the green house. If they had anything going for them over history this was one thing.
Wtf have they done to the kink? It looks like a Hyundai profile wise.

No clear profile photo was seen yet, and in my opinion none to establish even if it turned out right or wrong, it only remains to wait until tonight or tomorrow to attack as many want, or appreciate it at the right time with official photos.

The wider track will certainly benefit the next M4s' visuals versus its' more pedestrian siblings. And it's a bit of a shame that the sharp, super-shallow headlamps of the concept car haven't been carried-over to the production models.

It seems that, as in the case of the Z4, there will only be the mesh grill in all versions (except the M), but it does not seem that there are the classic vertical bars in any 4 coupe

C'mon, tell us how you really feel. :biggrin.doodle:

There's zero appeal to me. I like nothing about the new 4er's exterior, shame.

As of now, I feel the same. Either gonna take a miracle (like I get 10 years younger overnight) or a whole of brainwashing for me to warm to this one.

If so then this is sad. It's like BMW is saying "Cast aside your dogmas! Accept the new BMW".
But then, there's a distinction between heritage and dogma. Sometimes newness usurping hard-won heritage under the auspices of "shaking things up" doesn't always pan out successfully.

But yes, in the end...

Let's wait for the official material.

I hated it when I saw it about a year and a half ago. Now I think it’s inspired, modern and iconic. It puts the conversation of polarising design back on @ BMW.
Which I think they do well.

I am also not a big fan of the cheese grater mesh, I presume this is the M440i and maybe lesser models wlll be all black with vertical slats (like other BMW models), but not sure. I guess we have till more official specs and pics come out to see what face we will be dealing with.

Compared to the 4 series concept, the grill has lost the sharp edges and lights are not as slim, bumper toned down.

Will have to see it in person to cast judgement, but if pictures are anything to go by, this is a far departure from the very cohesive 3 series.

that said, I have seen a particular example of the M235i GC (at the White House no less) and it looks quite good for what it is. For full disclosure, I hated it in pictures, but have now developed a bit of a soft spot for it.

I suspect once these start appearing on the road in about six months, people will accept the design, and maybe even quite like it. Not including the M3/M4, there will be three different itterations of the grill. The M Performance one as seen here. The standard grill. And a blacked-out grill. These options suggest there will be quite some differences in looks depending on spec.

I'll wait until I see it in real life before I come to a definitive decision, but at this stage I certainly admire BMW's balls for going with a design like this on a high volume model.

So in a year and a half from now we will love it

Everything...
I saw it in a studio viewing room. You will have all the information tomorrow to make up your own mind so you can spend more time rather than the mere 20 mins I had at first viewing.

I hated it when I saw it about a year and a half ago. Now...

Could you elaborate on what you thought of it? At that time were you worried about what this would mean for the rest of the BMW range? Were there any designers present to explain the decision of evolving the grille to this size? What did your colleagues think?
