CLS [Renders] 2018 Mercedes-Benz CLS (gen 3)

The Mercedes-Benz CLS (initially called the CLS-Class) is a series of executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz from December 2003 to August 2023. The original model was a four-door sedan based on the Mercedes E-Class platform, marketed as a four door coupé. An estate (shooting brake) model was later added to the model range with the second generation CLS.
The smoothness and curves clash with all those sharp shapes in the rear, I don't like those air vents or the gap under the trunk. It will be better in a dark non mat colour, but still.

Colours might help, but this pathetic banana shape will remain. The car is completely ruined, just like current gen SL.

Stunner! I dunno guys what are you all complaining about. Absolutely love the shape, rear also. Wait to see all the official pics and different colors. Btw the pic of the rear isn’t the best angle and exposes the little 3D shape of the rearlights which makes it look a little bit weird, but I see a lot of potential in it.

Motherf#cker i knew it.
Wtf is this I hate it..
The front lights I hate.. i hate all cars with strong eyebrows..
But the rear the f#cking rear Jesus Christ why is it so ugly.. why are those lights put on there so it.leaves so much empty space together with a lazy designed light unit.

Surprisingly the interior looks amazing.

First 2 gens of CLS were great in my eyes.. way to f#ck it up.

This and the E class doesent attract me at all.. so it a either S or C.. C is to small and S is on its way out.
So basically they lost a customer with this f#ckery.

Ps
I still reserve 5% judgement for better pics.

But my god what an amazing disappointment

The interior is gorgeous, no doubt a nice place to be...

Now that this has leaked will Mercedes just release all the other pics soon ?

I'm disappointed. The interior is world class. The rear doesn't work so well. Maybe in black AMG guise. I'd take an S7 over this..

They completely messed up the rear lights - not even the 63 treatment can resolve this car...disappointment - a 4 door e coupe design would have been better

The original "perfected"? More like the original wrecked... oh man. Frontlights look cheap, rearlights look cheap.. the new A7 kills this. Pains me to say. Maybe darker colors will make the car pop more, but still.

I retain my initial impression. The new CLS is a serious letdown, which is very, very sad. Even the C 218 model series now looks better. The plain metal design is really boring with no accents and cues to define it. Spreading the same idea across the entire range will be criminal. After this, comes the A-Class, which pretty much looks the same as the CLS, at least front-end wise. And those tail lamps are, at least to say, hideous.

That Gorden Wagener is killing the beauty of the brand with his conceptual nonsense about design. Sensual purity? "The days of the creases are over". Come on. Who can take this guy into account after such a dramatic failure?

And yet - by all accounts - it appears that Wagener's influence extends beyond that of the Mercedes stable if what we've seen so far of the 8er is anything to go by.
Without wanting to set off another pointless pissing contest, I can't help but recognise the softer, less angular surfacing of the Concept 8 series and the camo'd spy shots of the forthcoming 8er.
Now, I'm also not claiming outright imitation but it does seem to me that BMW too is signalling a change to less "linearly intensive" surfacing on certain models.

I personally don't have a problem with a move toward more fluid, less fussy surfacing provided that there's enough in the detailing to keep the viewer engaged. However, at this stage - granted, these aren't the most flattering shots just yet - this new design does appear too plain and too familiar. And the jury's still out on Merc's new triangular headlight design theme.
