B-Class [Renders] 2018 B class (W247)

The Mercedes-Benz B-Class is a subcompact executive car manufactured and marketed by Mercedes-Benz since 2005. Based on the A-Class with larger dimensions, the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) classifies it as a small MPV.
I would guess that the GLB and new CLA are going to arrive for the 2020 model year in the U.S. The GLB is going be a hot seller and make a few people reconsider the GLC. A-Sedan, CLA, GLA, GLB all on sale should give Mercedes a formidable entry-level lineup in the U.S.

2019 Mercedes B-Class Returns In Most Revealing Spy Shots To Date
Aug 06, 2018 at 5:19am By: Adrian Padeanu, Editor
When a minivan from a mainstream brand doesn't cut it, Mercedes has the solution.
Fancy the new A-Class hatchback but are in need of additional room to carry the entire family? This is where the B-Class comes into play by offering a more practical package thanks to a spacious cabin and a larger trunk. Sales of the posh minivan never really took off ever since the original model’s launch back in 2006, but Mercedes is determined to come out with a third generation to fight the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.

Our spies have caught out in the open a prototype of the 2019 B-Class, which thankfully had less camouflage than ever before. We can see the generous greenhouse in full, with much taller windows compared to those of the A-Class hatchback. As it is the case with the outgoing model, the new B-Class will have the fixed glass section aft the rear doors to further signal it’s the roomier sibling.
The design won’t be particularly exciting, but that’s the price to pay for having a tall roof to free up headroom for passengers inside. From what we can see so far, Mercedes has put more effort into differentiating the B-Class from the A-Class, with the former adopting a rounded shape whereas the latter is a bit sharper and sportier.

That won’t be the case with the interior as we’re expecting the minivan’s cabin to be largely carried over from the hatchback, albeit with a few extra family-friendly features. In some of the attached spy shots, we can actually observe the tip of the dual digital panel inherited from the A-Class, so when the B-Class will be officially revealed, you will see a cabin that’ll look awfully familiar.

Speaking of things sourced from the hatchback, the new Mercedes minivan will use a virtually identical engine lineup. Needless to say, there likely won’t be any hotter versions such as “B35” and “B45” AMGs since no one would buy these. The days of the bonkers R63 are long gone as the three-pointed star is perfectly aware demand for an AMG-ified B-Class would be extremely slim.

With the disguise being reduced to merely a thin strip slapped onto prototypes, there’s a good chance we won’t have to wait much longer for the official reveal. It could take place by the year’s end or early 2019.

Mercedes confirms 2019 B-Class for Paris motor show: First drive from Auto motor und sport
Mercedes-Benz confirmed the launch of the all-new 2019 B-Class Sports Tourer at this year’s Paris motor show. Auto motor und sport has already tested the new model in prototype guise.
Mercedes-Benz has a particularly busy year. The brand launched not only a new A-Class, but also a sedan version of that car, the new GLE, the AMG GT 4-Door and a facelifted C-Class. At the Paris Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz presents the A 35 4Matic and the new GLE to the general public, both cars that have already been digitally presented. At the beginning of October, the completely new B-Class will also have its debut in Paris, as Mercedes-Benz announced today.
Mercedes-Benz calls the third generation B-Class a car where “[…] the emphasis is put on the Sport part in the Sports Tourer plate”. That sounds technically very good, but from previous spy images we could already conclude that the new B-Class in fact just follows the spatial concept and general shape of the current generation.
The 2019 Mercedes B-Class will again share the technology and platform with the A-Class. The backbone for both is the new MFA2 platform, on which Mercedes builds all compact models. Inside, the B-Class is big – much bigger than it looks from the outside. There is plenty of room for the legs both at the front and at the back. The rear seatback can now be folded down in a ratio of 40 to 20 to 40, before the division was still 40 to 60. The upright, high, but comfortable seating position is changed from its predecessor. In combination with the steep windshield and the low dashboard results in a gigantic field of vision forward. Like the A-Class, the B-Class now has the MBUX display and control system, which consists of two interconnected screens – as standard. The entry-level version features smaller displays and a separate screen-to-screen veneer, while the top versions have larger displays behind a continuous glass panel. Thanks to Android Auto and Apple Carplay smartphones can be conveniently connected to the infotainment system. The MBUX firmware update can be installed over-the-air.
According to Auto motor und sport, the chassis of the new B-Class achieves a balance between comfort and dynamics. Even bad potholes are not an issue, but the price for comfort is a tender tendency of the tall body to lean in turns. The test prototype was powered by the OM 654 diesel with 1,950 cubic centimeters of displacement and 245 hp – from the current C-Class. From stand still, the diesel ignites audibly, but while driving the noise disappears. Thanks to powerful torque, the B-Class sprints lightly with this top-of-the-range diesel.

Mercedes has developed a new dual-clutch transmission (DKG) – one with eight gears. The combination of the largest B-Class diesel engine and the eight-speed gearbox has been well coordinated by the engineers: No jerking at start, no bad revving without significant throttle when accelerating – the new drive package fits. And it has to be: After all, the B-Class is a spacious compact car among the best-selling Mercedes models.

Mercedes-Benz seems to be the master of 'copy and paste' interiors these days...This B looks much better than the previous generation, but that isn't saying much cause the B has always been an unattractive car, imo.

That steering wheel is mighty. No other cars at this price level has anything like it.

I rather have a comfortable ride than a "mighty steering wheel". I wanted to buy the previous gen B class for my mom but the suspension was horrible, harsh and crashy over potholes.

Hopefully the new model will be better because it's a practical small car.

I don't have much experience with Merc's recent steering wheels but I like the girth of Audi wheels. They have smaller girth than BMWs thick wheels.

A colleagues of mine had a 2013 B-Class returned it to the dealer for the same reason as you mentioned: An uncomfortable ride for a Mercedes.

I'm seeing in other articles about the A-Class sedan that the ride has been fixed and that the engineers admitted that they made a big mistake last time trying to make the current CLA "sporty" by giving it a harsh ride. A Mercedes should never have a harsh ride unless it's a track car and even then McLaren proves that you can still have a smooth ride.

The GLB has the potential to be as popular as the GLC. It is the right size and will have a really nice interior in an relatively affordable package. Much more useful vehicle than the GLA.
