CLS [Renders] 2018 Mercedes-Benz CLS (gen 3)

The Mercedes-Benz CLS (initially called the CLS-Class) is a series of executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz from December 2003 to August 2023. The original model was a four-door sedan based on the Mercedes E-Class platform, marketed as a four door coupé. An estate (shooting brake) model was later added to the model range with the second generation CLS.

I'm afraid sometimes klier is right.

Ouch. Proving once again automotive design runs in circles. What designers may think is a new design idea often isn't the case.

They should've kept thereat center console, thats what made the CLS a true CLS. The exterior looks okay but not dazzling, Imo the 218 seemed more in line with the current design philosophy the new CLS will have to grow on me

Sorry but for me, there will be never such a perfect designed car than the first genetation CLS.
After 13 years (!) for me still the most beautiful and gorgeous designed Mercedes!

This must be the worst rear end design of a Mercedes model since the 1995 W210 E-class. Those rear lights with sharp triangles ending on the bootlid just don't suit the curved body. The same can be said of the front lights they dont look Mercedes Benz but more like something from a Korean car.

So far I am hugely disappointed. I really hope other colours and wheel combinations will improve what we are seeing here. The matt grey and black wheels just look totally out of place on this car.

Taking into account where the bumpers cut lines are, I can already see a pretty damn extensive facelift for this turd.

A disappointment so far. Mercedes's four-door coupe concept in general seems to be getting stale--sportback styles like the A7 seem much more dramatic in my opinion.

Given the potential overlap with the upcoming GT sedan and the clear signals that Mercedes is hunting for cost cutting measures (i.e. copy paste E interior, no more shooting break), it seems very possible to me that this might be the last generation of the CLS.

The rear looks truly awful. Every aspect of it, not just the lights. What a disappointment, but I feared the rear from the spy shots. Interior copy past also disappointing, though I guess different door panels is interesting.

The front is certainly controversial. But the outline is certainly a return to the first ground breaking design. But will need to see the car in real life to see how the front end works.

Oh yes-in certain particular configurations, the C238 can have the ability to stop me in my tracks.

But in others (configurations), it strikes me as being as unexciting as a W213 taxicab.

And that's exactly what buyers want and what the designers intended. Not everyone want's to be noticed. Some buyers just want a nice car with a beautiful interior. Mercedes did some customer studies several years ago indicating this and it was in fact flagged by Wagner in an interview that the exterior design would be pulled back quite significantly.

But if you want a show stopper, just tick the right boxes and it looks absolutely sublime on the road.

I think there's a lot of overreaction to a few less flattering images of the vehicle. Whait for the full press release, digest it, and then we can bitch and moan. And yet I guarantee you there will be a very positive market reaction to this vehicle. Despite what this forum thinks, MB's latest designs are being gobbled up by the buying public.

I would reserve final judgement until seeing more pics of the car, but so far I can say that I am pleasantly impressed overall and it lies in with what I expected..alright there is the talk of the mismatch aggresive front and back with the calm side profile, but lets remember that the CLS is as ever a taster of the future design idiom which imo is suited fine for the future of design, where all kinds of wierd and wonderful things lie..

I wonder if they will bring out the Shooting Brake version with a sexy rear end in 2 years time as this model with its terrible styling will probably sell less numbers than expected
