CLS [Renders] 2018 Mercedes-Benz CLS (gen 3)

The Mercedes-Benz CLS (initially called the CLS-Class) is a series of executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz from December 2003 to August 2023. The original model was a four-door sedan based on the Mercedes E-Class platform, marketed as a four door coupé. An estate (shooting brake) model was later added to the model range with the second generation CLS.
What I find a consolation of sorts is that the accentuation of the wheelarches (as seen on the more pedestrian-spec'd prototype pictured here) will alleviate the "vertical expanse of nothingness/tricycle effect" such as that seen over the rear wheel arches of the C238 E-Class coupe/cabriolet.

I don't find the wheel arches on the E-Coupe to be accentuated enough to draw your eyes to them. Although it doesn't photograph very well, it looks lovely in person. It's a big departure from the visual strong CLS with various lights and shadows directed by the numerous creases.

However, the car does have a subtle crease that runs through the door handle. It much more visible on the darker mules than the silver one above:

^ May be very soon, as production of the predecessor ended already in May, and MB Passion anticipates the successor may become available to order already in December, and arrive at the dealerships by spring/summer. :)

^ Yes, may well happen. Remember his visions from the 222 debut in 2013, posted by W201? May already have contained some CLS character? :)

A relatively accurate precursor of what we may expect regarding a far more coupe-like SWB version of the W223 ? Or a Maybach-branded 4 door coupe positioned well above the C257 CLS ?

The nuance of that Dropping Line Theme leave me suspecting that the Lesnik drawing is quite dated...perhaps ?

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Is it just a sketch of the w222.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Is it just a sketch of the w222.

"Dramatic Liberties" often abundant in these sketches, it can be difficult to detect timeliness as well as accuracy.

Certain elements appear to quote the Maybach 6 Concept as well as Vision IAA 2015 Concept. And thus being interpretations of relatively current M-B design themes. A good thing methinks.

But the said Dropping Line and the not-so-shallow taillamp (think AMG GT as a modern, horizontally accentuated M-B theme) design have me wondering whether this sketch already has its' future behind it.

Oh, misunderstood you. That was indeed the CLS clinic. No invitation for a W223 clinic (Why not M-B...?!:sour:).

M-B is not to blame for that. The OEMs mostly don't organize their clinics themselves, nor do they recruit the participants. At least that is the rule.

Do you know anything about the matter?

Uhm ... maybe something. But at the moment, that something is still too hot to touch, sorry.
