X3/X4 [Official] The All-New 2014 BMW X4

The BMW X3 is an SUV manufactured by BMW since 2003, based on the BMW 3 Series platform. The BMW X4 is a compact luxury crossover SUV manufactured by BMW since 2014. The X4 is widely considered as a "coupé" version of the X3.
For me, a more pertinent question is "would you have bought an X3 if the X4 didn't exist?"

Dear Betty, since July 2011 I m the very happy owner of an F25 2011 X3 35i Msport ;)

Excellent. Congratulations. I need to go out and drive one for myself but it seems the press quite like it. You are in a very good and unique position to provide an answer to the debate that has recently took place in this thread.

Why are you buying an X4 over an X3? What has been the decision in your choice?

I like my X3, it s a great car and fun to drive. In less than 3 years i have already done 145'000 km. In july it s time to change of car. I was about to take again a X3, when you unveiled the trailer of X4. I really like the roof line to the tailgate. It is unique, the curve/shape is very fluid. Then the rear wheel arches makes the car more muscular than the x3. It looks like a bull ready to jump on his victims. in opposite to competitors, X4/X6 have a unique shape, the x4 with better proportions. I don t need marketing to buy stuff, i must have a crush at first sight and that is what happened with the X4. the new msport front air intakes suits very goods to the x4. For me the x4 will remain almost pratical as the x3. I had the opportunity to see it live at the Geneva motor show, and even with my 1.81m tall i could sat confortable on the rear seats?

Now i starts to count the days until i will receive it.

A very honest answer. And one many could provide on the 5er Gran Turismo , 3er Gran Turismo and X6.
" I just wanted something different"

Great, as long as you and the people at BMW are ok with charging more for no other virtue than being different then way to go for pulling it off.

Yep I believe that we should buy what we like and not what others tell you to buy. And yes I wanted something different, and that s exactly what the x4 offer a unique design. A unique identity.

What is "ok with charging more"? The 4 serie coupe is billed more than the 3 serie, no? Compared to my X3 35i what do I get included in the base price in my next X4 35i? Xenon lights, dab tunner, automatic tailgate opening/closing with comfort mode, Hud display (it is offered for free in switzerland until end of summer). Rear seats folding, and some other stuff that i don t remember now.
My x3 35i is pretty full loaded, m sport package 19" whell, panoramic sunroof (i will miss it in the x4), xenon, leather, heating front seats, adaptive lights, adaptive suspension, professionnal navi, BT smartphone connection, auto shading mirror in and out, side front seat adjust, memory for front seats, topview, alarm, storage package, keyless access, rain sensor, rear windows anti sun tinted, exterior lights in the doors, internet access, and I missed some options. My x4 will have the same options +: 20" wheels, led lights, hud display, garage door opener, hifi soundspeakers, driving assistant plus, speed limit info, dead angle warning, my remote service, connected services, dab radio, automatic tailgate. All in that the final price of the x4 is $ 5'000,- Less than what I paid for my x3...

So i hope you understand i don't understand/agree your statement "charging more".

Actually now I noticed the X4 has also been given the E-Class ponton back fender/door!! I must admit the red car in the videos doesn't look too bad, although the shape of the lower valence (under the BMW kidney grill) reminds me of the design of the split Audi grill before they made it a huge singular piece!!:D;) LOL!!

Here's the longer and more elaborated review of X4 by Ausfahrt.tv, in German though. But some shots of the car are even better than in the English version. Enjoy. :-)

BMW X4 M40i Will Start Production in December 2015

Rumors about a possible BMW X4 M model or an M Performance version have been going around the internet even before the car was officially unveiled. However, up until now, there’s been no official stand on the matter, some voices over at BMW strongly denying the possibility of an M model. How about an M Performance model then?
One of our sources close with BMW told us that such a model is not only possible, it’s on the pipeline already. According to him, the new MPA will be called BMW X4 M40i and will be using the same powerplant as the upcoming BMW F87 M2. The good news don’t stop there though.

Just like the M2, the new M40i will also be available with both an automatic and a manual gearbox to hook up to the upgraded N55 engine under the bonnet. Rumored to make around 360-380 HP, the new inline 6-cylinder 3-liter turbocharged unit will, most likely, be pushing around 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) to the wheels.

In the case of the M2, that will mean madness for the rear tires but on the X4, the xDrive all-wheel-drive system will take care of it, sending it in harmony to all four corners of the car.

Earlier, this year, we told you that the M2 will start production in November 2015. Well, we won’t have to wait too long for the X4 M40i either, theproduction start being scheduled for December 2015 and ending in March 2018, just in time to see a proper M version if BMW ever decides to make one.

Of course, just like all other M Performance Automobiles out there, the X4 will also be available with various M Performance parts that can be ordered separately and installed after the purchase. Amongst them we’ll find new wheels, mirror covers, brakes and even a fresh exhaust, all of them being already available for the standard X4.

2016 BMW X4 M40i Spotted Testing for the First Time

Just a little over a month ago, we were the first to confirm that BMW will be building an M Performance model of the X4, called the X4 M40i. Now, our spy photographers caught up with the first ever prototype of the car and it’s our pleasure to introduce it to you.
As you can see, the X4 M40i seems to be wearing roughly the same M Sport package up front, as the regular model. The camouflage used on the front fascia makes it hard for us to discern between the curves and look for details but overall, the same two air intakes are present on the sides of the front bumper as well as a wider one down the middle.

On the sides, the model designation badges are covered with camouflage as well on the front doors and the M logo on the front wing is also carefully taped up. Even the side sills have been wrapped up.

Round the back is where we’re expecting more changes to be visible. That’s because the M performance model will have a new engine under the bonnet, shared with the upcoming M2 that will need a little more ‘breathing room’ that the regular X4.

If on the xDrive35i model, the twin tailpipes are not positioned to the sides of the rear spoiler but both of them on the left side, on the M40i we’re expecting them to grow in number (4 tailpipes will likely be used) and migrate in pairs to the sides (two on each side). As you can see, the rear bumper of this car even has the cutouts there but they are housing just one tip each for now.

Speaking of the powerplant, our reliable source inside BMW claims that it will be a 3-liter upgraded, turbocharged unit developed on the same platform as the N55HP unit on the M235i. However, it will have close to 370 HP and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque and a similar inline architecture.

Production of the X4 M40i will begin in December 2015 as a 2016 model, with a projected end of production being scheduled in March 2018. That means this will not be a limited-production car and it will take on the likes of the Macan S.
