Phantom [Official] Rolls-Royce Phantom (VIII)


Rolls-Royce has used the Phantom name on full-sized luxury cars and limousines since 1925, making it the longest used car model nameplate in automotive history. In the 20th century, the Rolls-Royce Phantom was a very low volume, hand-built limousine, which in its first four generations was custom coachbuilt to the customer's requests, and sometimes extravagant desires. Whilst automobile manufacturing over time became more mechanised and prolific, and vehicles from other manufacturers could be built in greater numbers and at lower prices, the Phantoms remained hand-built, and production of individual cars only began once the order was placed. The use of the name "Phantom" is a long tradition of naming Rolls-Royce models after ghosts or spirits.
I've always thought that the ultimate "waftability" of an electric powertrain would suit Rolls-Royce well, but there's no denying I find the loss of the V12 to be a major blow. It's not even the performance, but what it represents. A full EV powertrain may be better in many respects, but I'd find it less desirable in a number of ways. I hope they can do something "interesting" if/when they go down the electric route.
 
Surely the V12 in the Rolls will remain for the next 5 to 7 years without a doubt, it is a brand where all its engines without exception are V12 and enjoys record sales, the engine is made and recently presented in its latest version in the Phantom, Cullinam and in the Ghost to come.

Those who have been lucky enough to drive say a ZOE and a Tesla S, there is some relationship in the difference as there is for example between a four-cylinder of a basic car and a V8-V12 of a high-end car?
I have curiosity to know if there are noticeable differences without being the obvious greater power

I know that the phantom and the flying spur are different classes of luxury vehicles, but I wanted to know the opinions of this forum on their interiors.

IMO, in terms of design and build quality (and maybe not oppulance), I feel like the flying spur gives the phantom a run for its money, if not is outright better?
 
I wonder if they could introduce the first EV car as a new standalone model first, something like a Seraph... then they can obsolete it when the technology matures a bit more, and put the powertrain in the established models.

And you will see them, a large SUV coupe, a smaller SUV, a small SUV coupe, we only have the consolation that perhaps some of them will call Seraph

Does Grey Poupon come as standard or is it optional? And if it's optional, is it part of a package or as a standalone option?


Btw, save for the piano black lacquer, I am digging that spec.
