6 Series Official Pictures : BMW 6er Convertible.

The BMW 6 Series is a range of grand tourers produced by BMW since 1976. It is the successor to the E9 Coupé. The first generation BMW E24 6 Series was available solely as a two-door coupé and produced from 1976 to 1989, when it was supplanted by the larger BMW 8 Series (E31). When the 6 Series nameplate was revived in 2004 for the second generation, the BMW E63/E64 6 Series, the coupé was joined by a convertible body style. The third generation F06/F12/F13 6 Series debuted in 2011 as a coupé and convertible, and a sedan variant known as the "Gran Coupé" in 2012. When the F06/F12/F13 6 Series ended production, the "Gran Coupé"/coupé/convertible models shifted into the more upmarket BMW 8 Series (G15) nameplate. The fourth generation 6 Series, the G32 6 Series, debuted in mid-2017 and is offered only as a fastback body style to complement the BMW 5 Series (G30) sedan/wagon.

It's the BMW 6er Convertible International Press Drives which we are commencing now in Cape Town.

Well, i think members already knew that by the title of my post...:D

:t-cheers:

I didn't know it was actually the press drives though. I just thought it was a photo shoot with no idea when the photos were taken. It's useful to know the press drives are starting now as we can possibly expect the first reviews next week.

The first short review is today in the new Autobild.

Yup. AutoBild made references to the somewhat disappointing torsional rigidity of the new 6 cabriolet (shimmys and trembles a bit on pothole marked surfaces). AB also mentioned the V8s' healthy appetite for fuel.

Maybe it's just me, but the photographs of the metallic blue Individual version car in South Africa aren't very captivating. They clearly do not have the "blew me away" factor that M-B USAs' photographs of the new AMG 63CLS do.

WOW! fantastic hi-res pics. Thanks Tycoon.:t-cheers:
:icondrool

EDIT: a Hand for the mod's: Giannes, South & Tycoon for the update and massive amount of stunning hi-res pics.:eusa_clap

Oh, surely not?! What about "Efficient Dynamics"? You not telling me that it's designed to pass the EU test cycle with impressive fuel consumption figures yet in the real world these figures mean nothing? ;)

Just conveying what AutoBild has stated regarding the V8:

"seemingly uneffected by its' approx. curb weight of 2 tons, the 6er cruises the countryside with its' subdued growl spreading good cheer. Until its' time to visit the petrol pump: a 10,7 liter EU-Mix fuel consumption will only brighten the mood of oil barons. For those who prefer to confine the cheering for themselves, the 640i is well worth contemplating"

"What's missing ?: Especially the V8 could use a more ecological conscience"

I know, I know. It wasn't meant to be targeted at you but at the lunacy of the EU test cycle.

Having said that, I don't consider that to be particularly bad fuel consumption for a two tonne, 407hp V8 twin-turbo. For conversion, that is 26.4mpg (22.0mpg US).

I get around 17mpg around town in my M3 and the best I could ever hope for (i.e. cruising on the highway at 100km/h) is around 29mpg. And that's a 1,675kg car with a NA V8 and 420hp.

EDIT: That figure AB quote is just the official figures from BMW, so it's not what they experienced in real life, so forget all of the above. Good luck getting anywhere near 26.4mpg in real life.

Damn, that blue Individual 6er is just sick..I cant find any other word to describe it now..stunning indeed!!
My personal choice for 6 series,if you ask me,would be 4.4 V8 under the hood,Sapphire Black (or Diamond Black,if its available) exterior with red leather interior..:)

Hmm, tough one between the Maser and 6'er. I was gonna say Maser all the way, but then the side profile pic had me thinking otherwise. Either way, these pics just remind me of how much better Coupe's look over yawning Convertibles.

One area that the Maser really wins, is the rear. The 6'ers rear doesn't look good to me, it looks like some clay-cartoon-ish thingy, just not serious or strong enough IMO.

For all three I'd rather have the coupe, but I must say....they look good together. An Italian, German and English car. Funny. They all look good btw. Somehow pretty similar, but I guess that has much to do with the fact that one can only do so much with the design of a 4 seat cabrio.

It's not very cheap in my country:

Almost € 166.000, $ 230.000 :eusa_thin

Edit; take note of my third browser tab! LOL!!

WOW cars must be very expensive where you live. Here we could buy a loaded Audi R8 V10 including tax for this money!

Pay a little more and you buy a new Lambo or a second hand Ferrari...

There are members here from countries where cars are even more expensive...

You guys in the U.S are lucky when it comes to the price of a car. From a German factory to my house is very close, yet a car is twice as expensive compared to the same car in the U.S, even when it doesn't have to sail across the world to get somewhere..
