S-Class (W222/C217/A217) [Official] Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222 Facelift) 2017-2020

The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class. Body styles: W222 (standard), V222 (long), X222 (limousine, Mercedes-Maybach), VV222 (pullman), C127 (coupé), A217 (convertible). Predecessor: S-Class (W221). Successor: S-Class (W223). Production: 2013–2020.
Debuting the S in the US with V6 then switching to I6 with eTurbos will certainly anger people. This was going to be the best time to introduce I6s to the brand and wait for it to trickle down into the facelifted lower class models. Huge misstep by Mercedes. Just sell all of those old TT V6s to Nissan/Infiniti! Maybe they'll introduce the I6 in the US with the upcoming E50 instead :jpshakehe

I obviously meant W221 and W222. NOT W220. That is just the point, sales of the current generation S-Class killed the U.S. market since introduction and a cheaper V6 model isn't needed, especially one that isn't even competitive in terms of power, especially when they have an I6 that is. The strategy is all wrong. They don't need to pander on price when you make a superior car. It should have stayed the S560 until a truly competitive S450 with an 400hp I6 was ready. The W222 has in some years, in the U.S. outsold the LS, A8 and 7-Series COMBINED. There is no need for this weak arse V6 S450.

The S350's price point is irrelevant, no one wants a diesel in the U.S market in this space.

The W222 has been enjoying the fact that the Lexus LS has been a complete zombie during its model run for the duration of its existence. With this new LS I do indeed think a cheaper model is a good move. This is one of the first times the LS has not debuted within a year or 2 of the S-class and it will be a true challenger. And let's not forget the upcoming Audi A8 (small time player, granted) will steal some interest and 7-series sales have been increasing on the back of their base 740i model.

Further, I'm willing to bet this upcoming LS will move up a bit in price, straddling MB's V6 and V8 offerings.

As it pertains to the V6, it will draw in additional customers regardless. When the I6 drops (hopefully within a year) it will bring itself back up to where the LS500 is entering. Not the ideal way to start we can agree, but seriously doubting its the end of the world.

Nissan/Infiniti has their own TT V6. :) And Mercedes is no stranger to switching up their powertrains a year or two in.

Yeah I'm thinking that for the 2019 model year in the U.S, the GLC, GLE, C, E and S will all get versions of the new I6. Hopefully we'll see the first I6 models revealed this fall at Frankurt. The E50 with 455hp should be up first in sedan/coupe/cabrio form. Hopefully MBUSA has the sense to offer an E400 Sedan in between the E300 and E50, with 365hp or so hp. The gulf between a E300 with the new I4 at 272hp and the E50 with reported 455hp is too great and doesn't make any sense.

With all due respect to MB fans, I think Mercedes has the worse headlight (the graphics, not the shape) design team on the industry. My God they're over designed and laboured. I thought nothing will beat the uglyness of the E class graphics and then came this facelift.

Do mind is just my opinion, no need to dislike it, specially the employees passing as fans.

Thanks

Not saying it isn the end of the world, but this isn't the way for the FL S-Class to come to market either. A cheaper model isn't needed IMO, but if you're going to do it, then do it right. That's all I'm saying here. I'm not convinced the V6 will draw in new customers, but we'll see.

Having seen it in person, I beg to differ. It has a bright jeweled appearance, which is hard to capture in photos.

Yes, I feel your frustration. But releasing a brand new tech-fest engine in the world's largest, and the most regulatory-laden, market carries big risks. A minor fault that may require a full recall in the US may only warrant a safety campaign in other markets.

It'll attract customers as most will see it as less costly entry into an S. Many will not care if it's a V6 or an inline-6, thye just want an S in their garage. But I'd like to see the new I-6 in the S, the engine just sounds like an absolute peach.

I am definitely feeling the new AMG steering wheel. I hoped the new standard 3-spoke would have the scripted "Mercedes-Benz" on the bottom like it did on the pre-FL two-spoke wheel...definitely classy.

It will also turn people off because they can get a Lexus LS for the same or a little more with far more power. It goes both ways.

Sorry, but that is just an excuse. This is Mercedes we're talking about, and it will have to be done sooner or latter. Introduce the new I6 in the S450 first before rolling it out to every other V6 engined Benz. They way they're doing it, it looks like it will debut in multiple cars here all at once which is far more risky.

There's so much bling bling in headlights, too many LEDs, 3 lighting stripes... wtf they scream look at me, almost like an aftermarket product.

Not good when Mercedes is trying too hard.

The rest of the car is awesome.

Yeah, they do remind me of those aftermarket headlights. That steering wheel does not belong in it either.

A sad day in the S-class' history.

That's the issue with me, I like headlights, not jewelry....

Do we need a picture this big to see someone has disliked your post?

Chill up mate, you have a baiting signature and have written a post already calling MB employees to the ones who dare to differ from your opinion, at least understand someone hits the dislike icon.

And I say this as someone who rarely gives a negative rating to anyone..
