GLS [Official] Mercedes-Benz GLS (X167)

The Mercedes-Benz GLS, formerly Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, is a full-size luxury crossover SUV produced by Mercedes-Benz since 2006. The GLS is considered the flagship of the marque's SUV lineup, although the body-on-frame G-Class (originally intended for military off-roading but also offered in luxurious trims) is more expensive and has been in production longer.

GLS remains the king of the soccer-mom-mobiles. :D

(Still) Not a stylish rival to Range Rover etc. X7 has much more style to rival RRover directly.

You all really need to go away with this rivaling the RR BS. Neither the GLS or the X7 really do that in their presentation. Unlike BMW, Mercedes has the G-Class as their iconic off roader to rival the Range Rover in prestige, styling, etc.

Mercedes knows their customer and they know what will sell, this GLS is going to fly off the lots just like the X7 does.

The X7 is not an RR rival in style, proportion or status. It’s a 7 seater X5 the same way the GLS is a 7 seater GLE.

There are consumers who happily blow X7/GLE money on a RR Sport or Macan.

Totally wrong. X7 Interior / exterior, squared off corners, glasshouse, style absolutely present similarly to Range. I’ve spent two decades walking up to my Ranges from last two generations.

Turned out better than expected in AMG trim.

Still no S in GLS.
I am not too sure. The S-Klasse does have similar design features to the GLS such as the high line directly underneath the glasshouse and similar rear lights and front lights. And there is that the S-Klasse looks more rounded than before as does GLS.
They could be much, much close to each other than you think and this might be because of the Maybach Signature model.

I was wondering what happened that he was not in Shanghai with everybody else. But as someone from another manufacturer said that it was too exclusive that even Schmee could not get a ticket.:D

It looks fantastic and butch in AMG trim but with the standard trim the fake front plastic intake spoils the front slightly. The rear looks good also on AMG and standard, I like the rectangular shaped rear lights with the chrome strip, they look quite classy. I have a feeling the rear lights on the new S class will look similar to this. Its great to know the GLS has Multibeam LED front lights as standard with 112 LEDs.

I was hoping they would show some pics with the Designo trim so we could see it with a nice leather colour combo but the interior is GLE with some different wood trims and rear seats. Its wonderfully spacious, amazing that someone 1.94m tall can still sit in the 3rd row.

Overall I think it's a big improvement on the previous model but it faces tough competition from alot of cars X7, Q7, Bentagya, Lincoln Navigator, Range Rover.

It looks like they will still offer a high/low transfer case. Will they still offer center and rear locking differentials?

The 3rd row seating area looks very spacious and the seats look well padded and comfortable to sit on for tall adults. It looks very inviting to drop in the back here.

Also the boot area is a decent size even with the 3rd row in use, it doesn't appear as small as some rivals so can accommodate 7 adults and some of their luggage quite well.
