EQS [Official] Mercedes-Benz EQS

The Mercedes-Benz EQS (V297) is a battery electric full-size luxury liftback car produced by Mercedes-Benz Group and part of the Mercedes-Benz EQ family. It was released in September 2021 in Germany and the fourth quarter of 2021 in the United States.
It baffles me how people continue to compare the EQS design to the Taycan and Audi E tron GT. Even paid motoring journalists! It seems like the only basis required to warrant a comparison is that the vehicle is an EV.

Valid point. But given if you are going to spend north of 100k on an EV and plan to drive it yourself, and don't usually have adults in the back - all very common situations, you will cross shop them. And it is not like old days - where sports cars have terribly stiff suspension or noisy engines. The difference are much more subtle.

It has a clamshell hood correct? Or wouldn't you call that clamshell?

Can we officially call it a hood/bonnet if the customer can't actually open it like a regular car hood/bonnet?

Till now my ultimate (as Lešnik says) coke bottle shoulder was at the GT 4-door, but the EQS is even more elegant...the shoulder is even more organic, you just want to touch it . Great job !

Agreed. And very valid points. But while some customers may cross shop, there are a large subsection that would not. I am very interested in the Taycan Cross for my wife and myself for example, but the EQS is of absolutely no interest for US. The vehicles are clearly designed to appeal to different customers.

Porsche, Audi and Mercedes were designing these vehicles with different customers in mind, hence completely different packaging outcomes and form factors.

Only one of these shots didn't photoshop someone in to hide the ugliness.
The official release video was painfully cringe. Wooden Ola, robotic Gorden Wagener, Alicia Keys trying to be groovy, film director James Cameron reading marketing bs about the environment from a teleprompter, It's almost like everyone at mercedes lacks self-awareness.

From eating lobster thermador to PB&J sandwiches? I guess the semi-conductor shortage hit Wayne Industries pretty hard!

I know, right??

No more lobster because they die suffocated by the insame amount of used masks in the sea, they say.

Oh, the semi-conductor crisis would be over soon BUT. New crisis is here already! It's RUBBER. Tips : commodity option play

Sorry, in what respect you mean my friend? A Tesla to me looks like a normal car too except the Model X maybe.

We are talking about two different things. I was talking about Lucid’s vertical integration of software and drivetrain components, which is similar to Tesla. Looks are a different thing.

I am really curious why EQS is of no interest? Specifically, is it the execution or the ethos (emphasis on luxury, not performance) of the EQS (or both or something else) that makes you not consider it?

That, their, with no silly AMG doodads, would have made a decent C class EV, (especially if it was actually volume efficient instead of pissing it away). But being both oblong and massive like EQS ends up in pregnant beluga territory.

The EQS won't compete with the Model S but only with the S class. So it will steal sales from its own brand only. What makes this almost a fact:
Comparable are Tesla long range with dual motors and the EQS 580
Power: Tesla 670 ps, EQS 530 ps
Acceleration: Tesla 0-60 miles/h in 3,1 s, EQS 0-100km/h 4,3 s
Weight: Tesla 2050 kg, EQS 2580 kg
Range:Tesla (EPA) 412 miles, EQS won't get more than 350 miles. The claim for 770 km WLTP is absolutely ridiculous and unashamedly idiotic. Even Daimler gives 20-16 kWh/h consumption acc WLTP which translates to 550 -675 km.
And the most important part
PRICE:Tesla 79 000 USD, EQS 130 000 EUR or 158 000 USD or exactly double the price.
It would be the same as saying the Porsche Taycan/Audi E-tron GT is not a competitor for the Tesla Model S as they are much more expensive and don't have the same power or range but anyone in the market for an electric-powered high-end luxury saloon would have these cars all to choose from, including the BMW i4. Powertrain wise the Model S has a lot going for it, but in some aspects, it's behind the times, especially the handling/ride and the interior although been refreshed looks cheap compared to the Taycan/E-tron GT and EQS.

Precisely. I am thinking of replacing the X3 M40i with the Taycan because it it a relatively affordable Porsche (that sounds absurd) with a high level of performance, beautiful ride and handling balance and very sporty exterior which I find absolutely stunning. I really want to own a Porsche at this stage, as I've tried all of the other Germans in various guises, and the Taycan seems the most appropriate. I will consider a Cayenne GTS, as the question over long term resale of EV's is now playing on my mind, but I have I'll drive both on Tuesday. I just worry a SUV will not deliver the driving experience I am looking for.

The EQS is far too much of a luxury proposition for someone my age (36) IMO.

And I thought your lack of interest in the EQS had something to do with it’s exterior.... Silly me.

You should give the upcoming EQE a shot. I do find it much more resolved than the EQS. Also the next generation BEV SUVs and MMA derviates look better than this.

The EQS is arguably a techfest that many manufacturers will aspire to. But to an owner, the visual attributes, the gaze worthiness of an automobile are important. M-B designers are quite capable of presenting some visually very convincing automobiles, the W/V223 being a recent case in point. But in the case of the EQS, they may have overshot the mark. The "lounge capsule" exterior does not necessarily equate to a lounge capsule spaciousness of its' interior. It appears that the "conventional" S-Class provides similar while being wrapped in a far more elegant and universally palatable gardrobe. And while there are some isolated design elements that are compelling, the sum of what's been presented on and in the EQS is simply bewildering.
